It’s really amazing, when you think about it, what can be considered a “craft”. When most think about crafting they think about knitting, or crochet, or sewing. When I think about crafting I think about creating something. It doesn’t necessarily have to involve yarn, or needles or hooks or anything like that. I consider it crafting whenever I rearrange my living room because I am creating an atmosphere. I consider it crafting when I rearrange my bookshelves...Comments (6)
I visited the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince set in Leavesden almost a year ago; filming had been under way for weeks but the future was unclear: it was the midst of the writer’s strike, and while the decision to split the final movie into two hadn't yet been announced, everyone was talking positively about the possibility.I’ve been visiting the sets since late 2003, and each year they build on the years past: The Gryffindor Common Room now sports more books and magical-themed games...Comments (27)
I’m cross-posting today, to show you an entry on the site for my book about the Ministry’s Veil, and why the characters heard what they did when they approached it. This was one of my favorite bits from the JKR interview of last fall, and one of the bits I tried hardest (and failed) to get into the book. I hope you enjoy!Comments (1)
I went to the bank yesterday to pay some Leaky bills (joy) and met Kingsley! Seriously, his name is Kingsley, and I was so delighted to meet someone named that, that he couldn’t stop laughing. Plus, he was a gentleman and had the same deep voice I imagine Kingsley to have. Thought you all would like to know. He was amused when I asked to take his picture: It’s an undercover ministry assignment for sure. ;PComments (10)
What were you doing when you heard that the movie would be postponed? Here's how it went for me: I was on the phone with a friend, when -"Oh NO FREAKING WAY.""What? What?!""They moved the movie.""They what the whattie?""The movie. It's moved! No, this isn't true. Marketwatch.com? Is this a spoof site? No, I know marketwatch.com, this is not a spoof site. Hey, wait, there's a WB logo. Is it April? What's happening?!""Melissa, what the heck are you talking about?""What? July? Why July!""What July?""Half-Blood...Comments (23)

Hi everyone: I am here at Comic Con, an event that makes Harry Potter conferences look like garden parties. Yesterday I fought and scraped to get into the Twilight panel, and my ears are still ringing. Now, this is mostly fellow blogger Candace’s territory, so I won’t talk about Twilight often; plus which, while I’m a fan of the series I’m not a FAN OF THE SERIES so I don’t have as much to say. Still, I saw this panel…. The panel consisted of the director of...Comments (34)
Hello! Welcome to my Leaky blog. I’ve found that more than six years covering this “beat” has given me a lot of thoughts about Potter, life, culture, fandom and more, that no one but you fine folk would be interested in hearing. Plus, I’ve been getting angry e-mails for two solid years from people who hate that our set reports have gone oral on the podcasts – and I agree with them, to a point (the point at which posting a set report during the week of the movie’s...Comments (10)
Welcome to my blog! I'm the innkeeper around here; I run the Leaky Cauldron and am a host on PotterCast. I've recently written a book about the HP phenomenon, and hope to use this blog to talk about thoughts on the series and culture, as well as post set reports from the sixth film visit as soon as I can!
One thing I want to do on this blog is address some of the queries that come in to our inboxes at Leaky so often; every day or so we get a general question about the series, or something asking us our opinions, that we can't really answer in the form of a news post, or don't get to on the podcast. I always feel bad that those questions sit in our boxes for so long. So here's a running offer: e-mail it to me with the subject "Blog Question" and I will, eventually, get to it, if it's something I can answer.
