It is very hard for an author to make a living off of the income of his or her books, which is why many of them still have a day job. You don’t really come across many people like J.K. Rowling, or Stephenie Meyer, or Janet Evanovich, who have each become successful enough in their own right that they can afford to support themselves and their families comfortably on what they make with their book sales. But it is very rare for an author to be able to do so. The phenomenon of Harry Potter was an incredibly unique one, and we most likely won’t see it repeated again.

Agent Rachel Curtis, who is agent to one of my favorite authors Kim Harrison, has shared her expertise on what factors are considered when a published author decides to drop his or her second profession and go with writing as a full time occupation. Here is your chance for all you budding writers to get a good insiders look at what it takes and what it generally means to make a living as a writer! I know for many writers, their dream is to become a successful enough published author to be able to support herself through her writing, and I really encourage you to read the article so you know what to expect. Best of luck to all aspiring published authors!
