"Mars" anything but all wet...

November 16, 2009, 10:51 AM

I don't want to spoil anyone so, I'll try to be vague:1) I truly believe "The Waters of Mars" features David Tennant's best acting ever, as we see the Doctor go somewhere emotionally we never thought he could go2) You're either going to love this special or you're going to hate it as a result of that. I personally LOVED it. 3) I really wish Lindsay Duncan could stay on as a companion. She can't, but... wow. Woman's a great foil for the Doctor. Now, for some more squeeful stuff to report: David...

Part of me wants to stamp my foot and complain that it's not fair. Part of me wants to squee OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!David Tennant is going to be at Comic-Con in July, the San Diego event's 40th anniversary. He and outgoing head writer Russell T. Davies are going to sit on a panel together, along with producer Julie Gardner and director Euros Lyn, Sunday, July 26.And John Barrowman will be there too, just in time (finally!) for Torchwood's special one-weeker called...

Having a tweet time with the Doctor and Donna

June 10, 2009, 09:41 PM

First things first, blog - I know it's been forever. I've been having a hard time thinking up fresh stuff to say on here while Doctor Who is on holiday. I have to say, I love love LOVED Planet of the Dead. Fantastic! I don't want to spoil you if you haven't seen it yet, but it's on DVD now through Netflix and other sources, so go watch it. 'Kay? 'Kay. I thought I'd share with you one thing that's keeping me from going over to BBC Wales and actually kicking their butts for the lag time between...

Part of me wants to know... and part of me doesn't want to know. I heard waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back about a rumor that the Master, Donna and Wilf would be making a reappearance in the Christmas special(s) in 2009. Can't speak to Donna or the Master, but... Russell T. Davies is confirming Bernard Cribbins will be in the special(s). Is it a red herring? Is it for a flashback only? Who knows? But it sure is fun to speculate. Besides, Den of Geek also spotted John Simm on set recently. Just sayin'.

No April Foolin' Here...

April 01, 2009, 10:53 AM

Have you seen the new trailer for the next Doctor Who special? I'd thought it wasn't supposed to be on until today, but apparently there was something on BBC last night. I don't have a link for you, but I do have a synopsis, so don't read on if you don't want to know. Scroll down. Scroll down. Scroll down. Scroll down. Scroll down. Scroll down. Scroll down. Martha, Mickey and more...

February 03, 2009, 11:34 AM

Lots of buzz over the last week about a possible return (again) for Dr. Martha Jones, played by Freema Agyeman, in one of this year's upcoming specials. You can find the rumors here, here, here and here. Now, take that with the appropriately-sized grain of salt - I think there were a lot of rumors floating around in the last few months on purpose to keep fans from being completely unsurprised by the announcement of the 11th Doctor. (Come on, not even one of the names rumored was Matt Smith! You...

The Next Doctor... for real

January 24, 2009, 02:05 PM

Yeah, I know this was announced a few weeks ago. Admittedly, I've been in denial. It's not that I have anything against Matt Smith becoming the 11th Doctor. He's just so not what I expected that I really was speechless. The one thing I said they'd have to do was avoid bringing on a David Tennant lookalike. And what have they done? OK, he's not as hot as Tennant, but he's defined by his hair, and he's gangly and skinny. So all I say now is, I trust the Moff to make the decision, and it must be...

New Christmas Trailer Squeeeeeeeeeeee!

December 15, 2008, 05:21 PM

If you've been keeping track on the Doctor Who website, today's advent calendar item is a new trailer for the Christmas special, "The Next Doctor." It gives a little bit more of a taste of what's to come (and a hint of coordination between our Doctor and the other one, played by David Morrissey). If you're not in the UK, you'll have to go check out to find it since the BBC website videos are blocked in the US for rights reasons. But it's worth the search!Morrissey made an appearance...

The Next Doctor Auditions, part five

December 03, 2008, 10:28 AM

Here's the next victim, I mean candidate - Marc Warren: Yes, that's right - Elton Pope from "Love and Monsters." So I'm not sure how serious this particular rumor is, since they'd have to get past the whole "Isn't that the same guy who's married to the block of concrete who used to be the girl who played Moaning Myrtle?" bit. (See what I just did there? Harry Potter connection! He also was in "Ballet Shoes" with Emma Watson.) For anybody familiar with the wonderful books of Terry Pratchett, Warren...

The Next Doctor Auditions, part four

November 30, 2008, 02:14 PM

Today's candidate: David Morrissey! It seems a little obvious how this rumor got started. After all, he's in the Christmas special, which is called "The Next Doctor." So surely someone just jumped to a conclusion, right? Probably shouldn't discount him all the way, though. There's always room for a good plot twist, such as Morrissey's Doctor having accidentally met #10 before he came into existence. You know, wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey. I don't think Morrissey will wind up being #11, but I concede...

The Next Doctor Auditions, part three

November 25, 2008, 09:56 AM

Candidate number three for the role of Doctor is... Sean Pertwee, son of former Doctor Jon Pertwee. Sean Pertwee has a long list of credits over on IMDB spanning the 80's, 90's and 2000's, although again - nothing that would make him all that well-known to the Americans like me. (He did have a bit part in 1993's "Swing Kids", and a much larger role in 97's "Event Horizon".) But it's an impressive resume regardless, and he's got a kind of Christopher Eccleston meets Daniel Craig charm about him....

The Next Doctor Auditions, part two

November 24, 2008, 10:40 AM

Up next: Adrian Lester!Again, not someone who's going to be super-familiar to Americans, Adrian Lester is picking up name-recognition and screen time right and left in the UK. Most recently, he starred in a "CSI meets Indiana Jones" (or so I'm told) drama called Bonekickers, but the show is being canceled after its first season. His career (at least according to IMDB) goes back to the early nineties, spanning both film and TV, including an appearance as "Simon" in The Day After Tomorrow. I think...

The Next Doctor Auditions, part one

November 23, 2008, 11:47 PM

In the next few blogs, I thought I'd take a look at some of the handful of actors who are rumored to be on a "short list" of candidates for the next Doctor. Up first: Paterson Joseph, who, while being unfamilar to many Americans, is fairly well-known in British circles and appeared in two Doctor Who episodes in 2005. He's the guy named Rodrick from "Parting of the Ways" and "Bad Wolf" who bested Rose on the Game Station's version of "The Weakest Link."I'd say enough time's probably passed since...

Trailer goodness, times two!!!

November 15, 2008, 12:03 PM

I can't post the link for US viewers because of rights reasons, but if you're in the UK, you can see the new Children In Need Doctor Who trailer here. It's freakin' awesome! I won't spoil you if you'd rather not know. CIN played the first two minutes of the Christmas special, basically, and it's really really brilliant. That's all! And of course you've probably already seen Leaky's link to the new HBP trailer. I admit, I'm puzzled by the bit with Hermione in the library - I think it's funny,...

US location filming more likely?

November 12, 2008, 05:03 PM

The BBC's Julie Gardner is reported planning a move to the states. We know she's stepping down as head of drama for BBC Wales and executive producer of Doctor Who. But - wouldn't this put her in a better position to oversee location filming for Who in the states (especially if it happens for the four specials set for release next year)? Brief disclaimer - the BBC is NOT confirming a move for Gardner. But the rumor about filming in the states has been out there for a while. Where would you like...
