Orphan Gene Named Harry Potter
The Financial Times reports that scientist have named an orphan gene Harry Potter, in keeping with the tradition of naming orphan genes after famous orphans. The gene, "plays a key role in regulating the onset of puberty, one of the great mysteries of human biology".

Witch Gets Grant for Business
Norwegian Lena Skarning received a grant to run a business of potions, fortune-telling and magic. She says the Harry Potter books may have made people more tolerant of sorcery, and refers to herself as "Norway's only state-backed witch."

Rupert's and Emma's Works in Charity Art Auction
Rupert Grint and Emma Watson each donated an original painting to be auctioned by Kith & Kids, a group that helps children with disabilities. Although the main event on October 9th raised over £22,000, some paintings are still available - have a look!
