Robbie Coltrane Robbie Coltrane Rubeus Hagrid
Born: March 30, 1950 in Rutherglen, Scotland

"Robbie Coltrane has appeared in over 40 films in a career that has spanned more than 30 years. Although he may be best-known to filmgoers as Hogwarts' gamekeeper and Care of Magical Creatures teacher Hagrid, he is internationally recognized and acclaimed for the role of ""Fitz"" in the popular television series Cracker.

After a brief stint at the Glasgow School of Art, Mr. Coltrane moved to acting in his early twenties, officially changing his surname (from MacMillan) in tribute to jazz saxophonist John Coltrane. In the late 1970's Mr. Coltrane started working in the theatre and as a standup comedian, and shortly thereafter began work in television and films. Mr. Coltrane has amassed an impressive array of awards, including the BAFTA Award for ""Best Television Actor"" three years in a row (1994, 1995 and 1996; for Cracker.)

Besides Maggie Smith (Professor Minerva McGonagall), Mr. Coltrane was the only cast member personally requested by J.K. Rowling. Robbie will reprise his role as Hagrid for the upcoming Half-Blood Prince.
