Imelda Staunton is an award-winning stage actress who is also known for her work on the big screen, including for her as the Nurse in the Academy Award-winning Shakespeare in Love. Ms. Staunton received her training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. In 1999, she appeared in an all-star adaptation of David Copperfield, with soon-to-be Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe in the title role. She is also a talented singer and comedienne, and is a three-time recipient of Britain's highest theater honor, the Olivier Award, for roles in A Chorus of Disapproval, The Corn is Green and Into the Woods. In 2004, Ms. Staunton received Best Actress honors at the European Film Awards, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs), and the Venice Film Festival for her title role performance in Vera Drake, which also won Best Picture. For the same role, she received Best Actress nominations for the 2005 Golden Globes and Academy Awards. Ms. Staunton memorably portrayed power-hungry Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix., and recently was nominated for a London Film Circle Critics award for her performance in the fifth Harry Potter movie.
