Bloomsbury to Publish Illustrated Versions of Harry Potter Books

In an Associated Press story about the new adult J.K. Rowling book, Bloomsbury has revealed future plans for the Harry Potter novels:

"...we intend to publish illustrated editions of all seven Harry Potter books in a rolling program from 2013 onwards in addition to our partnership on e-books with the Pottermore website," the publisher said in a statement. In the U.S., Scholastic spokeswoman Kyle Good noted that Scholastic didn't publish adult books.

"We will continue to publish her children's books in the U.S.," Good said Thursday.

The Harry Potter books will remain with Bloomsbury and Scholastic in Britain and the U.S., respectively.

(Thanks to our friends at Hypable for pointing out that it is Bloomsbury, not Scholastic, publishing the new editions!)

Surely it will depend on whether they are good illustrations?

Can they get an all new artist then? Mary GrandPre has done enough by now surely? Let’s see a new vision

Whoever illustrates better keep to their minds and the descriptions in the book and not the movies. The casting was great of course but I’d love to see another vision of it

I’m quite excited really! Hopefully they do the books in some form of justice because we all know nothing can compete with the original book series. (:

@JoRowlingRocks Yes but the UK/Ireland editions by Bloomsbury never were, nor would this be considered adult editions.
I’d love to see someone like Quentin Blake do the illustrations, he did a wonderful illustration of The Forest and I’d love to see more, but it looks as if the books will just use the Pottermore pictures.

Whatever became of the 10th anniversary editions of the American versions? They released a nice one with additional artwork for SS, but no more after that.
