. Good luck to everyone who enters!
As there doesn’t seem to be a prize, except publication on their website, I guess the contest is open to everyone, wherever you live. I’m not sure if I’ll enter. On re-reading I find that they don’t ask which book you would recommend first-time readers, but which book would you tell them to look forward to most? Well, all of them, but then in DH everytime is resolved. And I loved PoA very much, too. I always thought if someone is a bit reluctant to read HP, I would recommend them to start with PoA, because (especially if they have seen the first 2 movies, and who hasn’t?) there is still a lot of exposition about the first 2 books, and it has a more funny and active start than PS and CoS. If I am being objective (really hard to do) the beginning of PS does little to draw in a reluctant reader (how ‘perfectly normal’ the Dursleys are and the ‘excitement’ of Vernons work…). Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t deter me, but well, people who don’t know and actually don’t want to know how great these books are, might be a bit put off.
The book that inspired me the most, would still be PS, because it introduced me to this wonderful world and characters, and I thought it was awesome that a writer could conjure up such excitement about books out of virtually nothing, and without any commercial publicity to begin with.
Having just said, that I wasn’t sure if I would enter, I suddenly got a spurt of inspiration. So there you go. I have entered. Good luck to the others who have.
