Congratulations to all the winners and those with the honourable mention, they were all great fun to read, but the winning entry by shosier was absolutely brilliant, what a great piece of writing, a very well deserved winner.

@Fleur-De-Lily, this news article is about people putting lots of effort into their writing, and all you can do is think of yourself being first to comment, then not bother to leave a comment about the winners. I hope you will return and put this right.

All the entries are clever — but Shosier’s is BRILLIANT! I really enjoyed reading it, and it absolutely sounded like Fred and George speaking! Well done!

Fun reads all! Shosier’s was indeed outstanding, but I’m a bit befuddled as to why the entry by Gwynog’srabbit only got an Honorable Mention, as it was also extremely well-written and funny. Did it lose marks on some technicality like exceeding the word limit?

I was especially tickled by the ‘long spoons’ reference. For those who didn’t get it, it refers to an old proverb (we know that it was already on the go in Shakespeare’s time, as he references it in ‘The Tempest’) to the effect that ‘He who would sup with the Devil must bring a long spoon.’ Or, as contemporary politicians might put it, if you’re going to do business with disreputable people, make sure you maintain your ‘plausible deniability.’ So it’s a wicked little dig on the character of the typical Hogwarts faculty member on the part of the twins.

Although I thought all the entries were well-done, what seemed missing from them for me was any sense of where the ‘official’ language left off and where the Fred & George interpolations began and ended. All of these excerpts seemed to me to be entirely fabricated. But I think that the fault lies in the fact that one cannot use any kind of typeface formatting on Leaky, other than the extremely annoying option of ALL CAPS. When I read the instructions for the contest, my reaction was, ‘Oh, that would be fun to try, if only I could put the Fred & George edits in italics or a different color or font.’ I don’t know if there is any potential solution to this limitation.

WeenyOwl, We’re sorry you felt you couldn’t enter. There are a number of options when submitting your entry if you can’t use italics or color. For example, using quotation marks, or listing original content before the actual entry with the fred and george changes. Most email systems do have bold, underline and italics, but if you’rs doesn’t, you can always distinguish with brackets [ ] around the parts you want to draw attention to. We hope that will help you in the future so that you may enter any contest that appeals to you!
