Harry Potter Series Given Special Award from AFI

AFI has announced their nominees for their 2011 AFI Awards, and the "Harry Potter" series will be receiving a special award as it does not fit AFI's criteria for other honorees:

AFI also gave "The Artist" and the "Harry Potter" franchise special awards (AFI's special kudos recognize films that don't meet the org general awards criteria, most notably that a production be primarily American-generated).

Actually, as Dave Karger from Entertainment Weekly informed me, he inquired if Deathly Hallows – Part 2 was eligible. They said yes, but decided to recognize the series as a whole in a special award.

I am very happy to see some official recognition of true excellence. From the first to the last the Harry Potter films have been quality, wonderful, productions, worthy of Oscars. So, this is finally, what is deserved. If only the Oscars weren’t so rigid and snobby.
