The brother of Afshan Azad (Padma Patil) has been put in jail for assaulting Ms. Azad June of last year:
The brother of Harry
Potter actress Afshan Azad was jailed on Friday for six months for
attacking his sister after discovering she was dating a non-Muslim.
...
The actress, who now lives in London, had asked the court not to jail her older brother.
But judge Roger Thomas sent him to prison for six months after he pleaded guilty to the assault.
"This persistent attack was accompanied by serious and very hurtful abuse and threats," the judge told the defendant.
"The
background to this offence lies in the concern that you, and perhaps
other family members, had about Afshan's relationship with a young man
who was not of the Islamic faith."

What everyone must realise is that while the brother pleaded guilty to the abuse he does feel perfectly justified to do so according to Shira (spelling?) Law by which muslims live and not by the laws of any western country in which they reside. We can only hope she remains safe. Many prayers to her!!!

I hope this is resolved soon. I’m afraid this will only foment anti-Muslim hate now, which is already so high especially in America. (Even though she doesn’t live in America. But that’s not the point.)

Oh gosh. Why’d it take this long??!! She obviously loves her brother… but she can talk on the phone to whoever she likes! What did her parents do, the article only said they were “involved”? I just hope they don’t all want her to only go out with a certain religion.

i remember this from last year, i hope it is going to clear up now that he has been sentenced. i cant imagine going through that ordeal and then having to re-live it in court.
also, its my ravenclaw showing but it should say “pled” rather than “pleaded.” :/
Should be more then 6 month cuz that was really bad.
