Congresswoman Giffords Looking at Pages of Harry Potter as Part of Recovery

A New York Times article about the recovery of the critically injured U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords revealed that Congresswoman Giffords has begun to show some impressive signs of progress, including looking at "pages of large-print text taken from a Harry Potter book".

Ms. Giffords was one of the victims of a shooting near Tucson, Arizona just under a fortnight ago in which six people were killed and another thirteen injured.

Thanks for the heads up Hank!

This is so wonderFul or this innocent lady. I’m so glad she is getting better everyday. It was horrible what happened to her and the no less regretted civilians. Harry is healing and it’s a truly magnificent gift.

Such a magical feeling, knowing that she is recovering while reading HP. I can only hope she makes it through this rough time to show that we are stronger than the violence that shapes our world.

I wonder if they are asking her questions about the text to see if she’s understanding it.

@Butterfly Boy Yup, they’ve transferred her to a rehabilitation facility in Houston, Texas. Hope the facility is well stocked with HP! :D

I hope for a healthy recovery of all the surviving victims of the shooting including Congresswoman Giffords. Hp books are definetly healing and soothing to read or listen to when you’re sick or just bored. I listen to the audio tapes on my 35 min commute to wk.

My mum was in the hospital last October and was reading Deathly Hallows. It was amazing to see how excited she was about the film and we talked animatedly about it every time I went to visit. HP always helps!
