Harry Potter fans have joined with members of fandoms from other popular books, movies, and tv series (including Heroes, Lost, True Blood, The Wire and Firefly) to create Helping Haiti Heal, a home-grown effort to contribute to the growing humanitarian aid and charitable relief activities in Haiti.
This Saturday, January 23rd, at 2 P.M. EST, HPA's PotterWatch, PotterCast, MuggleCast, Hogwarts Radio, and FictionAlley will come together for a live fundraising webcast here on Livestream to benefit Partners in Health. This four hour live event will feature a donation drive where donors have the opportunity to receive thank you gifts based on certain donation levels, live performances from many wizard rockers; leaders in fan communities; personal interviews with Haitian-Americans about the importance of giving to Partners In Health; human rights activists; a representative from MIT's Media Lab discussing ways that we can donate our time using new media; and much more.

i got on it!
I’m so glad we can do this!! I watched yesterday and it was brilliant! Evanna, Matt (and his wasp, lol)! It’s so nice of Jo to donate the signed books, I mean some of us can really win it, I think I would faint if I did! lol! But best of all was that we raised so much (and more) for such a good cause! I love this fandom!
that’s amazing, GO LEAKY !
I missed the live show because of work, but I’m watching the replay. Evanna and Matt are so much fun. I really hope Evanna will be able to get a book or DVD signed by part of the cast (wonder if WB will let her though). I plan on donating tomorrow morning. On a sentimental note: Leaky, you guys are amazing. This is why the fandom will never die, because we can always find time to come together for important events like this. Thank you to everyone behind the scenes who is making this possible. Keep donating people!
I donated. Cross my fingers and hope to win.
That is so Awesome!
Over $33,000 in under six hours, that’s awesome!
HP rules all! But the fandoms are best when united!
This is so awesome, and the show was great. Words can not describe how amazing this fandom is!
It’s awesome what we can accomplish when we work together toward a common goal. HP fans not only have good taste, but good hearts. Dumbledore would be proud.
It was wonderful and thrilling to get to be a part of this event, so thank you to all my fellow hosts and the wonderful team that put in so much effort to get the telethon onto the intrawebz! I can’t wait to see what we manage to raise over the next week – but if help_haiti on livejournal can get pledges of over $100,000, I am sure that #HHH can bring in at least that much. SO many thanks to JKR, Tom, Evanna, Matt and especially everyone in the chatroom and on Twitter yesterday afternoon.
