The author of the LA Times Hero Complex Blog recently went to Leavesden studios for a series of interviews with cast members on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which are due later this fall. While there, Geoff Boucher spoke to actor Dan Radcliffe regarding the persistent rumors that Dan was on the short list to be cast in the upcoming film production of "The Hobbit." In this new interview, Dan firmly states he has no interest in the project with "any wizards in it. "I'd have to say, 'Thanks but no thanks,' not that anyone has asked me. Honestly, I don't think they would want me anyway, it's just too
close. Whatever I do next, I don't think there will be any wizards in
it!"
Dan also weighs in on who he think a good candidate for the part of the beloved young Hobbit Bilbo Baggins: "James McAvoy is fantastic. I think he should play it. I've done the fantasy-film thing. Actually, so has he, with the 'Chronicles of Narnia,'
of course. But I've done it for longer. He can take over. I'm done. I
don't think anybody involved in that would want me to, either."

Also, like some ppl here have said, for me, too, Dan is Harry Potter forever, just like Elijah Wood is Frodo forever… Or, at least, until they both have put a couple of decades between themselves and playing these iconic roles, the most loved fictional characters of all time. Or, alternatively, until they manage to pull dominicmonaghans and land themselves roles like he did, as Charlie Pace in Lost. Although, despite Dom’s role in Lost, in many ways he’s still Merry to me and will always be so. Hobbits <3

I am glad he wont do the hobbit either, and I think James McAvoy would do a good job as well. At comic con a couple of weeks ago Peter Jackson said they have not even gotten the green light from the studio yet cause the script is not complete. He said once they do that and the project gets the green light that he will begin to see who will fit what part. All in all I will look forward to w/e Daniel does in the future he is a good actor.

no i agree. i mean, it just seems lame when people do the same thing over and over. i don’t like HUGE leaps though.

like zac efron for example, he just did the movie seventen again, which wasn’t a muscal, and didn’t have dancing and singing, and as a very differnt kind of humor to HSM, but he still gotto play basketball and be a high school heartthrob ;P

i think dan should pick roles that are as complex and well writtenas harry, that would suit him well i think :)

James is really good! He would definitely make a good Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. I agree with Dan: if he did this, it would be too much into the fantasy genre. he should try something new and different.

He will be a great actor, I know it. He just lack the heigh though. I think it’s time he takes some of them growth balls.."
It just goes to show that one of the few socially acceptable things to ridicule these days is a person’s height. Alegria35, height has no correlation to a person’s ability or worth. As was said about Ginny, size does not determine one’s power. So I am not sure what would be enhanced about Dan Radcliffe if he were taller. One can’t change how tall or not they any more than they can their race and it is wrong to ridicule someone for it. It is the size of one’s character that counts.

I wouldn’t mind. It was a good book. But Dan as a hobbit… no way!! God I get the feeling he hates HP now. I’m probably gonna have ppl hating but I mean it as everytime I see him in an interview he’s realy not intrested in HP and always negative about it. I know its coz he’s tired of filming it I don;’t think thats the only reason. I mean he wanted Harry dead so he would go back to film him!

Oops I meant not go back to film as Harry.

That is so smart of him, to not get caught in the rolls of the great wizarding side kick. It would like to see him as Bilbo, but I get it, absolutely. Good call of James McAvoy, though.

hahahahhaa. When I read the title I started laughing.

Lmao @ the title of this story. I think Dan would be awesome as Bilbo, but I can definitely see why he wouldn’t want to do it. He’s been making big budget fantasy films since he was 11 years old and The Hobbit is based on another beloved book. So I’m sure he wants to move away from that genre and do something new. Even though he has an uncanny resemblance to Elijah Wood aka Frodo.
I agree with the choice of James McAvoy though or even David Tennant. They would both be great Bilbos. But James gets my top pick. I love him.
