Dan Radcliffe Lends Support to the Trevor Project

Harry Potter actor Dan Radcliffe has given his support to The Trevor Project, a nationwide suicide prevention telephone helpline for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (GLBTQ) youth, by contributing a major donation to the non-forprofit organization.  In a press release, the Trevor Project notes the young actor's support of their Circle of Hope project which involved many major donors who support the group.  Dan Radcliffe is quoted in the release as saying:

"I am very pleased to begin my support of The Trevor Project, which saves lives every day through its critical work... It's extremely distressing to consider that in 2009 suicide is a top three killer of young people, and it's truly devastating to learn that LGBTQ youth are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers. I deeply hope my support can raise the organization's visibility so even more despondent youth become aware of The Trevor Helpline's highly trained counselors and Trevor's many other resources. It's vitally important that young people understand they are not alone and, perhaps even more important, that their young lives have real value."
The Trevor Project, which began in 1998, aims to work towards suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth in the United States.  The organization comprises many ventures including "Dear Trevor, an online question-and-answer forum for young people with questions surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity; The Trevor Survival Kit, an educational kit distributed to schools and youth service providers to help educators facilitate discussions about suicide, gender identity and sexual orientation; and TrevorSpace, an online social networking community for LGBTQ youth, their friends and allies."

The 24/7 Trevor Helpline can be contacted in the United States by calling 866-4-U-TREVOR (866-488-7386).

Good for him. The Trevor Project is wonderful; we need to see more support for organizations that can help young people deal with the struggles they’re enduring.
Also, I love how eloquent Daniel is. When was the last time you heard a young actor or popstar use a word like “despondent”?

Dan <3

Such an astonishingly bright, compassionate and open young man. Bravo Dan, you’re a true jewel in the sea of useless, self-absorbed teenypoppers. I truly wish the best for you and your fellow young Potter actors.

Coolio people. So nice of him is it not? But what if an Irish person or English person not in the USA wants to off themselves?? ‘Just cal Samaritans!’ OR just do NOT act upon feelings of despair or cowardice from facing all the is good and bad and big and small and long and short and easy and difficult, you should not, I feel, ever give in to a desire to murder, no matter what the reason, person, place, way or time!!!!! Under any circumstances.

thats good :) its good that hes not stereotypical (as we have found out in the past that hes not :P). and its more worth him donating money to an actual charity than all these celebrities who just wail about it.

Dan shows once again how wonderful he is. I’m glad he’s openly supporting this project. Maybe other celebrities are wary of doing it openly cause it’s mainly aimed at homosexuals, so I’m glad he stepped out.
Bravo, Dan!

That’s great. I love the way Dan is in personality and his moral compass is spot on. Hopefully this should help raise more awarness and help utimately to change people’s lives. Suicide is not somebody’s only option although, many believe it is and through the money Dan has donated it has an organisation should be greatly helped. People could learn a lot from Dan’s genorosity ….. Hoorary for Dan, yet again! :D

Once, again [as may have said] Dan Radcliffe “rises to the occasion” and shows he is a compassionate and caring person. I certainly am proud of him. I’m sure his parents are….and everyone who knows [or knows OF him] More celebrities should take his for others, without fanfare, or thought of self! Well done Dan!
