David Yates on Ron and Hermione: "It was a hell of a snog"

Leaky is currently going through its footage from the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince premiere in New York City, and has this bit from David Yates that sheds a bit of light the big kiss between Ron and Hermione:
A: Emma said that she and Rupert were really feeling the pressure from the public for the kiss in seven. How did you guys combat that?
DY: It's a big moment for both of them. It's a huge moment in a series of films. I love that relationship between Ron and Hermione. I love the fact that it's so repressed and trapped and unrequited and unfulfilled. ... I just said look guys, just give yourself to these characters. Let Ron take over, let Hermione take over. ... And give yourselves to those characters, let them do the snogging. You shouldn't even think about it.
And it was a hell of a snog actually. Yeah it's really cool actually. They did brilliantly, I'm so proud of them.
Q: And there's a huge battle raging around them.
A: We're in the middle of a huge battle when they snog. It's pretty intense.

Emma and Rupe have just been so worrying about it. But i’m sure it;s gonna be great, especially in a battle!!! Like David said, let the characters take over. It’s weird to think/see of Emma and Rupe kissing, but it ain’t them, so there!!

It kinda makes sense that the actors were worrying about it – I think Ron and Hermione were, too, in a sense – that’s why it took such an enormous scene to bring them out of themselves and realize the time had come. Can’t wait!

Ron and Hermione’s big kiss did not happen until Deathly Hallows. I hope this is what is being spoken of.
In Deathly Hallows at Hogwarts, when the fab three returned to look for Rowena Ravenclaw’s missing crown before the battle began, Ron and Hermione entered the chamber of secrets to gather Basilisk fangs to destroy the Hufflepuff horcrux that voldemort had made, and the diadem when they found it. It was just after they returned from the chamber of secrets, with fangs and mangled cup that Ron seriously said to Harry they had forgotten someone, the house elves, someone should get them out to safety
and that was the moment. the moment when Hermione threw herself at Ron and kissed him full on the lips. Basilisk fangs dropped :-) and Ron and Hermione hung onto each other tightly. This was also when the school was preparing to defend itself and just before the battle became really intense.
Their kiss did not happen in Half Blood Prince.
