Rumor Alert: Credible word has reached TLC that actress Miranda Richardson is in negotiations to reprise her role as scandal monger and Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore author Rita Skeeter in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. TLC spoke directly to reps for Ms. Richardson today, and when asked if they could deny or confirm the report, was told several times "no comment."
Readers will recall recently producer David Heyman told Empire magazine they are indeed still casting for the final films in the Harry Potter movies. As such, we must keep this new report about Ms. Richardson, who gave such a delightful performance as the nasty Rita in Goblet of Fire, firmly in the rumor category for now, until Warner Bros makes a formal announcement regarding the cast of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

@DeliaDee, I totally agree with what you wrote about the HP movie screenwriters going (or more like, being sent) to Peter Jackson for lessons on adaptation. There’s a guy who knows how to adapt a legendary piece of literature and turn it into the best movie series, like, ever.
I know the LOTR films have their own shortcomings and PJ has certainly received more than his fair share of criticism from Tolkien purists, but all in all, he did an abso-friggin’-lutely amazing job with bringing Middle Earth to life.

Absolutely true, MischiefManaged, but even most of the Tolkein purists respected the films. The more critical ones were in the minority and they would never have been pleased. Adaptation is a sticky process. Books are very different from movies so they must be altered to make the story watchable. Jackson’s genius (along with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens) is that he kept true to the story even when he had to change things around. Keeping the scouring of the shire never would have worked in the movie and, while, he left out Tom Bombadil, he gave a bunch of Tom’s lines to Treebeard. That’s what it’s all about. Serving the story. Kloves serves his own wishes. Look at PoA. Look at GoF. And someone tell me why we haven’t seen a denouement since SS. This is why I don’t want Rita and Mrs. Granger in DH. I’m afraid. I’m very afraid.
