Actor Jamie Waylett Reportedly Arrested for Drug Possession in London

We have some troubling news to report tonight regarding one of the actors in the Harry Potter films. Stemming originally from a UK tabloid, world wide media have now carried the story that actor Jamie Waylett, who portrays actor Vincent Crabbe in the beloved film series, was arrested on charges of possessing an illegal substance. A rep for Scotland Yard told the BBC that police made the arrest after searching a car carrying 19 year old Jamie and a friend. "The car was searched and officers found eight bags of a substance believed to be cannabis," he said.

The report then goes on to state a search of the Waylett's home produced additional cannabis in the form of ten plants. "Officers found a number of plants believed to be cannabis plants and equipment for the cultivation," Scotland Yard said "Both men have been bailed until July pending further inquiries and tests on the substances."

MTV also points out that "Waylett, who has become a "Harry Potter" fan favorite, emerged from massive casting calls in the early part of the decade to land his role. A Slytherin student, Vincent Crabbe serves as one of Draco Malfoy's minions but is as helped by his size as he is fatally flawed by his dimness. An accomplice to the Death Eaters, Crabbe's wizard powers — and his distaste for Harry — increase throughout the "Potter" series."

Readers will recall of course that Jamie Waylett is a long time friend to us here at Leaky. As distressing as this news is for us personally as we do believe this to be accurate, we can only imagine how upsetting this news is for his family, close friends, and of course his fans. At this time we do not know how this may impact his future role in the Harry Potter series, with filming ongoing for Deathly Hallows, and notably his involvement in the future filming of the dramatic scenes involving Crabbe in the Room of Requirement.  Warner Bros has declined to comment as of now on this matter, and we are continuing to work to learn more on this report; more when we get it!

Guessing by the number of baggies found in the car, It sounds like he may have bought an ounce from a street dealer. Ten plants found at his home also sounds to me as a personal amount. He will have to deal with the consequences of his actions, but to me this doesn’t look like he was selling marijuana. Jamie is way too much of a public figure in the Harry Potter world to sell anything remotely illegal.

I highly doubt that he will be fired, about 2 years ago an number of newspapers had him on the front page exposing him for doing drugs and they certainly were stronger than the ones he was caught with and he still went on to film 5 and 6 so y would it make a difference now! this only confirms that there was truth in the articles 2 years ago and that jamie is out of control if it didnt stop him then it certainly wont now!!

I saw this yesterday, and then today this site confirmed it, and I’m so disapponted that he has done this. Its really disappointing to know that someone admired by lots of people for his acting would do this. I hope he and others learn from this mistake and don’t do anything similar.

I doubt he’ll be sacked for this: they’ve already started shooting DH so his contract has been agreed and signed for awhile now.

For the person who brought up actors (?) who were sacked/condemned in the US for drug use: That was in the US. Here in the UK we like to Tsk tsk loudly for awhile and then forget about it when something more scandalous comes along. I doubt this will have any effect whatsoever on whatever acting career he would have had after the HP films.

And as Mr Garrison likes to say: “Drugs are bad, kids, mmmkay?”

I’m sorry but some of you act as if he is a bad boy, like this is naughty, its pretty mundane compared to what he could be into, kids are dying from perscription pills, marijuana never killed anyone, its better than drinking in my opinion, i bet if you pried into alot of the actors lives you would find it, especially Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman.

Just a sad reminder that being famous doesn’t exempt you from making mistakes and that the actors in the HP movies are growing up in the same environment that all kids are dealing with these days.

When i read the headline on a Dutch site i was hoping it wouldn’t be for something serious. I know cannabis is serious, but i’m happy it wasn’t something worse…. Also the media are really jumping on this, but instead of calling him by name they say “HARRY POTTER ACTOR!”……. like they want us to think it’s Daniel Radcliffe.

Show business is very forgiving of drug abuse. Just look at Robert Downey Jr.! He’s been in prison for drug use! And he recently starred in the hit film “Iron Man.” Unless he’s dealing pot at a very high level, I think he’ll be OK as far as the law is concerned. And another actor can be used to replace Crabbe if necessary. In the long run, he’ll be fine — at least at the career level.

Lots of people experiment with pot — and when it comes to illicit drugs, it’s the least harmful. I’d rather him be caught with pot than meth or heroin.

And he’s such a minor character in the films, so I don’t think it will draw much attention.

This is really sad news… I really hope the best for him, even though I’m sorely disappointed.

Guys, he wasn’t just caught with a little pot. With 8 bags and 10 plants, they can probably charge him with intent to distribute. So that’s a big deal. Does Pot hurt anyone? No, but it is illegal, and you have to be willing to pay the consequences if you choose to grow and distribute it. Do I want him kicked off the film? No, but he made this decision so he has to be a man and deal with what happens. Very stupid.
