Actor Jamie Waylett Reportedly Arrested for Drug Possession in London

We have some troubling news to report tonight regarding one of the actors in the Harry Potter films. Stemming originally from a UK tabloid, world wide media have now carried the story that actor Jamie Waylett, who portrays actor Vincent Crabbe in the beloved film series, was arrested on charges of possessing an illegal substance. A rep for Scotland Yard told the BBC that police made the arrest after searching a car carrying 19 year old Jamie and a friend. "The car was searched and officers found eight bags of a substance believed to be cannabis," he said.

The report then goes on to state a search of the Waylett's home produced additional cannabis in the form of ten plants. "Officers found a number of plants believed to be cannabis plants and equipment for the cultivation," Scotland Yard said "Both men have been bailed until July pending further inquiries and tests on the substances."

MTV also points out that "Waylett, who has become a "Harry Potter" fan favorite, emerged from massive casting calls in the early part of the decade to land his role. A Slytherin student, Vincent Crabbe serves as one of Draco Malfoy's minions but is as helped by his size as he is fatally flawed by his dimness. An accomplice to the Death Eaters, Crabbe's wizard powers — and his distaste for Harry — increase throughout the "Potter" series."

Readers will recall of course that Jamie Waylett is a long time friend to us here at Leaky. As distressing as this news is for us personally as we do believe this to be accurate, we can only imagine how upsetting this news is for his family, close friends, and of course his fans. At this time we do not know how this may impact his future role in the Harry Potter series, with filming ongoing for Deathly Hallows, and notably his involvement in the future filming of the dramatic scenes involving Crabbe in the Room of Requirement.  Warner Bros has declined to comment as of now on this matter, and we are continuing to work to learn more on this report; more when we get it!

I don’t know about the laws in Britain, but in the U.S. having that much pot, the authorities would probably try to charge him with intent to sell which is a whole different ballgame and could mean prison time. I hope that’s not the case.

My first response “it’s just pot, big deal.” But that does sound like a awful lot for “personal” use. He could definitely get a lot of trouble if he’s charged with selling >.<

Like mollywobbles23 said, it’s not really that bad since it’s cannabis. It could be worse! It just sucks that there’s going to be so much publicity with this since he’s an actor..hopefully it doesn’t affect him negatively for a long time.

This is sad, but does it really matter, he is still Crabbe, I just hope that he gets to finish his part.

What a shame. Especially for Leaky too, I read all about Melissa’s relationship with him in Harry, A History. While I think that some punishment really needs to come about, I don’t think it should affect his acting in the Harry Potter movies.

This is sad. What in his life drove him to do this? I hope he overcomes this and learns from his mistakes and that he will be available for the filming of the final movie.

well im gonna judge…
what the hell. what kind of IDIOT would do that to his career, especially since his biggest role is in the seventh film. He’s a weak person and I hope he knows he has disappointed thousands of fans, and more personally his close family and friends. Wow.

I’m not really surprised that a teenager was caught with pot. I know in the states that if you have over a certain amount you can be charged with intent to distribute. And that tends to get people in the most trouble. I’m not saying that him having drugs is in any way cool but, seriously? Teens do dumb things. And then they get caught. It happens.

I really feel for Jamie, but I hope this forces him to channel his addictive nature toward a healthier, safer and legal outlet. It’s easy to rely on drugs and alcohol to ease the stresses of every day life, but it really does much more harm than good in the long run. It’s proven over and over again by thousands of people every day: deaden the pain = deaden the enjoyment of life.

Jamie has too much going for him to go down this path. When you’re in the limelight, it’s even worse for you. I hope he gets off with just a hand slap…(it should be legal anyway), but I wish him luck! Legal entanglements suck!

I know I am going to get flamed for this…but honestly…it was just weed…a whole lot of it (eventhough the actual weight of weed in possession was never actually mentioned, it could have been a mere ounce or less a bag), but still…just weed. So its a teenager making a stupid decision…big deal.
