Here we go again: Erc box office is reporting (now picked up too by ComingSoon.net) that Warner Bros has changed the release date for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince yet again, this time two days earlier than stated before to Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Update: WB has confirmed this now directly to TLC. Again, the new release date for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is Wednesday, July 15, 2009.
In a statement to the Associated Press, Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said that "Every day the kids are out of school in summer is just like an extra Saturday."The article continues that with this move, it "gives the movie a head-start on the weekend during what's shaping up as
a highly competitive summer season for Hollywood, which has major
franchise films opening virtually every week." As readers will recall, OotP was moved shortly before its release, to the opening day as a Wednesday back in July, 2007.
Thanks so much to Jeff from ERC Boxoffice and Comingsoon.net for emailing!

With the PotterCasters scheduled to be someplace between Sacramento and Los Angeles on July 15th, I suppose they could do a midnight release/3:00 am (twilight) podcast / / but zOMG. I’m sure that everyone will find a way to make it work, but I am also sure that a lot of people have travel plans such that they won’t be able to be at Azkatraz on the 15th – so it will either not be a release night showing or a lot of people won’t be able to make it.

It certainly does put a kink in Azkatraz and the PotterCast summer tour.

Stupid WB, make up your mind already. Why couldn’t you have made this decision in the first place? You did the same thing for OotP (changing it from a Friday to a Wednesday) and it was a huge hit, so why didn’t you decide in the beginning to do the same for HBP? And you’re going to screw up the events for Azkatraz too you know.

Is it going to be the same in the UK?
I hope so :]

Earlier is definitely better, especially after the long delay they subjected us to! Okay – two days doesn’t make up for eight months, but it’s going in the right direction. Let’s hope they really do it, and don’t keep moving the date around!

Well, it does make sense. This way, the “opening weekend” starts on Wednesday and is five days long. They want the biggest opening of the year and if they have 5 days for that, they might get it. :)

@Fonty: AGREED! They did the same thing with OOTP and it’s the second highest grossing film of the HP series. Alot of the big movies do the whole 5 day thing, especially during the summer. The Dark Knight did it and look how much money it made.

I had a feeling this would happen, especially since they made that same change with Order of the Phoenix. Not sure why they didn’t just do this to begin with. Perhaps they thought that if they moved it ‘up’ 2 days, people would get excited and forget that they had pushed it back 8 months originally, lol.
I only hope it doesn’t create too much craziness for the people planning Azkatraz. I know they had a lot of stuff going on around this release :/
