Tonight, scores of readers let us know that actor Rhys Ifans announced on the Friday Night with Jonathan Ross program broadcast this evening on the BBC that he would be appearing in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. While Mr. Ifans did not state which role he would be portraying, TLC can report that Rhys Ifans will be taking on the part of Xenophilius Lovegood, Luna's eccentric father and publisher of the Quibbler magazine. A rather fitting photo of Mr. Ifans as an elaborately garbed person can be seen here. During his appearance, TLC reader Neil writes that Rhys Ifans said the "HP wardrobe people flew out to Spain to fit him
for his robes while on the set of Mr Nice," a film which is now in post production. Rhys Ifans has appeared in many films, notably Notting Hill, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and the soon to be released The Boat that Rocked. Update: You can now see additional photos of Rhys Ifans here in our Image Galleries. Also thanks to ComingSoon.net we can see video of his announcement via YouTube.
On a related note, UHP emailed us to let us know they spoke with agents for actress Clemence Poesy about her possible return to the part of Fleur in Deathly Hallows, however the negotiations are ongoing, and nothing is certain yet. We are working to learn more on this and will update when we can.
Please note: As with all the others, WB has not yet officially confirmed any of these casting reports, and we continue to await a formal release on these, however TLC believes the casting of Mr. Ifans as Xeno to be correct.
Thanks to SS, and especially Will, Nick, Neil, and all the readers who emailed about the Jonathan Ross announcement!

Hmm … he could be great for the role, if they do his hair, make-up and costume right. Yup. I can see it.

i think he’s a good xeno but he should have longer hair, and they’ll need to make him look older. i hope they keep the same actors for both fleur and krum. somehow – this guy reminds me of bill weasley in a picture i saw on MN.

I’m rather excited about Rhys Ifans portraying Xenophilius, and i hope WB confirms him soon, along with everyone else. I think he’ll do wonderfully for the part. I agree with moglet too, we don’t know how old Xeno is, and there’s no reason Rhys can’t be aged reasonably with make up and hair. I personally imagined Xeno with grey hair, and a little older. If you look at other pictures of Rhys on IMDB he looks older than he does in the one Sue provided, like this one: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2815268352/nm0406975. Let’s try and not worry too much, i think he’ll do great!
I do hope that Clemence Posey is confirmed to come back, she made a lovely Fleur.

He looks pretty good, although i imagined xeno a bit younger…
i hope clemence is back in number 7. it’d be nice to see lots of people from the whole series. anyone know if victor will be at the wedding?

i think what they will do is age him up a little with a beard and wig, dont forget guys rhys did an amazing job playing the part of spike in notting hill where he was a very eccentric housemate and that is what the part of xeno is all about really playing lunas father who is as eccentric as his daughter. i think wb have got it bang on with rhys he,s a great british actor with alot to offer for this part. us brits seem to have a knack of producing fantastic comedic actors.i myself didnt picture ryhs as playing xeno to begin with but now i think about it he,s perfect for the part and also it doesnt state how old xeno is in the book.so with him being 40 odd id say thats about the right age. a 40 year old wizard can be just as wise as a 60 year old one, some wizards know more than others.
I can’t wait to see him in those sunshine yellow dress robes!
