Finally, the film Sweeney Todd garnered nominations in the of Best Horror, Best Soundtrack, and Best Director (Timothy Burton) categories, with Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) mentioned as a contender for Best Actress. Voting is now open for registered Empire Online members and runs through March 12th. The awards ceremony is slated for March 29, 2009.
Congratulations to all!
I really hope he doesn’t win. He hasn’t made as many films or played as many varied chracters as either of the other nominees. Hayley Atwell was terrific in Brideshead Revisited and the Duchess last year. Jim Sturgess has been in a musical, thriller, IRA biopic and period film alongside Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson. Gemma Arterton (not the best actress but working along well) has done a Bond film, headed teen comedy, starred in a Hardy adaptation and played Elizabeth Bennet – all in the past 18 months. Toby Kebbel broke through in the excellent Dead Man’s Shoes, headed a crime film and played in Control – one of the best films in 2007.
I’m sorry, but Pattinson shouldn’t be nominated against them. He’ll probably win because I’m sure the Twilighters will come out to vote – but I don’t think he deserves it.
Is he being nominated for his performance as Cedric, or just as Edward? Or both? That would be pretty cool, too. They should just include everything he’s done, methinks.
