Here’s my best theory. The window for a DVD release is 4-6 months after the theatrical run. If Part 1 comes out in November, then we can see it’s DVD for sale between March – May. They will use the launch of the DVD to boost awareness of Part 2. There will be synergy in the marketing campaign. Just as Order of Pheonix DVD provided a glimpse of the production of Half-Blood Prince, I think this DVD will get us ready for Part 2. It will be a giant marketing campaign. The end of an era. The Part 2 DVD won’t come out until the Holidays. Big Summer movies are available for Christmas presents. Since it is an earlier May release it might hit stores more on the November Thanksgiving end than December. Honestly, looking at the calendar it would be pretty cool if the Part 2 DVD comes out on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. (Most DVDs come out on Tuesday). Since Sorcerer’s Stone came out in theaters on Nov 16 2001 that would mark the grand finale of exactly 10 years of Harry Potter movie magic.

Considering the attention span of the audience :) there will be two complete marketing campaigns. The usual interviews during the shooting will probably be split between the two movies, but all the rest, the premieres, junkets, photocalls, tv shows, will be done twice. Maybe not all the actors (especially all of the trio) will be available at both campaigns due to university or other films, but it will be two movies and therefore two marketing campaigns. Everything else would be quite a surprise. My idea of the promos for the 8th film would be a world tour of the trio and others attending as many premieres all over the world as possible. :)
It is also most likely that the DH Part 1 DVD will hit stores before DH Part 2 hits theaters. This makes a lot of marketing sense and a preview of DH Part 2 could be included on the DVD. Such a preview could possibly be included at the end of DH Part 1 in the theaters also, but DVD is more likely, since it comes out closer to DH Part 2.
It is unlikely that there will be a DH Part 3, even though Steve Kloves joked about that. :)
Whether DH Part 2 will actually be released in May 2011 is not finally decided. I don´t think a fixed date for this (a day of release) will be announced before the year 2010. It is not entirely impossible that Warner will move DH Part 2 further ahead into 2011 up until November, which would be great for the 2012 Oscars. :-)
But again, not quite so likely to happen. :)

It is almost impossible to believe that work is beginning on the end of this fantastic franchise. Good luck to the crew and cast as they undertake their efforts; best of luck on this adaptation!

Yea it is hard to believe they are starting on the last film(s). It seems weird because HBP is still not out since they pushed it back :( It will be interesting to see the if they will release special sets and extended versions once the whole series is complete.

Lol, I bet Emma is kissing rupbert tomorrow so she doesn’t have to worry about it.
