BroadwayWorld.com has a report online from a private reading of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," featuring actor Dan Radclliffe (Harry Potter) in New York yesterday. As readers will recall, rumors first surfaced of Mr. Radcliffe's involvement in this reading via a report in Variety Magazine last October. Today, the report, available to read here, goes through the audience members first impressions of the reading, which notes that Mr. Radlciffe was "amazing." The article goes on to say, "[Radcliffe] interpreted the role in a charming, adorable and fresh way. He sang great. I think everyone was there to see if he could do it. And boy, he really did it. He was great. He came off as a full-fledged musical star." Mention is made of Mr. Radcliffe's fellow actors, which included Rose Sezniak, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Urie, Mary Faber, Lewis Stadlen, Nancy Opel, Don Stephenson, and Renee Goldsberry. Of the overall performance of the musical, the report says, "The show seemed not out of date or old fashioned because of the state of the economy and what the world of big business has been going through recently. And there is renewed interest in this period because of Mad Men."
Please note, no official word has been given regarding a place on Broadway for this show. Stay tuned to Leaky for updates.

sigh This is such a fun show. I did it in Germany twenty years ago playing Miss Jones.
joginny1994 SQUEE!, yes, pretty much if you’re in show business you learn to sing. A lot of that comes from the voice lessons you take to control and project your voice for stage work gives you the basics for good singing control. Mind you, some people just have a tin ear and can’t carry a tune, but that’s a rare person. Show tunes are better sung by those who could never sing opera. You need a clear tone without a lot of vibrato for your voice to do well in Broadway style singing. That way the audience can hear the words clearly, as the songs typically advance the plot as much as the dialogue.

joGinny, actually, most Disney actors and actresses can not really sing, have you heard them signing live? They are terrible, the only good one is Demi Lobato. The rest only sounds good when their voices are digitally changed for their tv shows and cds. Even in a show like Glee only 4 of them can really sing well.
In a musical you have to sing live so it means Daniel can really sing well. And it’s not something as easy as pop, like other HP actors do, musicals are very difficult. Think about how many actors from the old cast have been in musicals? And I don’t mean movies, where they can have their voices changed. I don’t remember a single one who has, which proves not many people can actually do it.
Dan has been taking lessons and working hard to learn, so I don’t know why some of you find it funny, just because you have never heard him. It only proves, despite been the most famous teen actor in the world, he is quite unknown.
He doesn’t only work every day in the HP films, he continues to study and even works in his holiday break, I find it admirable, he is completely underrated.
Bandersnatch, thanks for the info, it looks like she loved it and that must have been very emotional for everyone.
cool!!! :o)
