Sales of Harry Potter items are in the news as UK Amazon has released several lists today of top sellers over the past decade. The Telegraph reports that in the Top Selling DVDs and Blu-rays of the decade for the online retailer, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was number six on the list (number one was Mamma Mia followed by Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers)
The paper also reports that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is the best-selling author of the decade, and the beloved Harry Potter series had a commanding presence in the best-selling book category as follows:
1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - JK Rowling
2. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - JK Rowling
3. Breaking Dawn - Stephenie Meyer
4. Twilight -Stephenie Meyer
5. Eclipse - Stephenie Meyer
6. The Tales of Beedle the Bard - JK Rowling
7. New Moon - Stephenie Meyer
8. The Time Traveller's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
9. The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
10. A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khaled Hosseini
78 Points
It really starts to piss me off that something like ‘Twilight’ keeps ruining the top ten lists because all those melodramatic girls buy those because to also fall in love with an emo vampire so they can be bitten (which is really perverse if you put it that way). Everyone knows that the story of Harry Potter is much more real, much more philosophic and has much more depth than a puberal teenage desire.
You can tell: I’m a DIE HARD FAN!!! HP FTW!!!
(For the record I didn’t mean to offend anyone personnally, but I don’t think there are many ‘Twilight’-fans out here)
I have read 6 of those books… Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,The Tales of Beedle the Bard,The Kite Runner,A Thousand Splendid Suns and yes…I did read Twilight…only to know what the book was about and why it was so popular, but half way thru the book I was already annoyed about characters, the story and i forced myself to finish it and i skipped a lot of the pages. I cant stand how shallow the character of Bella is…on a different note, Khaled Hosseini’s books are a must read,i cried while reading those books…JK and Khaled Hosseini, two of my favorite authors in one list.
Omg That’s Awesome. :D
