October 24, 2009, 09:34 PM
Attention music fans! The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will be hosting a special music event this Thanksgiving weekend as they present a John Williams Movie Music Spectacular. The legendary composer will be leading the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as they perform a grand suite of some of his wonderful music heard in the Harry Potter films. An additional treat is in store as there will also be a tribute to the films of David Lean, with a performance of what is regarded as some of the most memorable music written for film, including Blithe Spirit, The Bridge on the River Kwai, A Passage to India, Oliver Twist, Dr. Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia. There will be two performances over the holiday weekend, one Saturday, November 28th at 8:00 pm and then again Sunday, November 29th at 3:00 pm, with tickets now available at this link.
Thanks much Phoenix!
Is this really news? John Williams does a movie concert every summer at the Hollywood Bowl and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it posted on Leaky. Is there more of a particular focus on Harry Potter for this or is it just one of his regular shows? I’m sure there are other opportunities for HP fans attend a concert if we provided his full listing.
As for the haters…I feel you are boxing Williams into his more gimmicky tunes that he’s famous for. You’re not really considering the greater breadth of his work and that’s a bit unfair. For me, I just am grateful he gave us Hedwid’s theme that will stand the test of time. It is a great iconic piece of music worthy of this franchise. He deserves to finish it off. I trust that everyone will handle the final films well.
Yeah! This is why living in Chicago is so great! I can’t wait, I’m going to go to this, trying to get ticks now!
I bet this will be a wonderful event to attend, the whole concert looks incredibly appealing. I hope everyone who goes has a wonderful time, I should think it will be a sellout.
