UPDATE: As just announced, unfortunately John Green is unable to attend as he is a bit under the weather.
Today will see the Harry Potter Alliance in action as they host a Wizards Wrock for Equality day. As noted previously, this event centers around Maine's Nov. 3 marriage ballot initiative (more on that here) and will also see live performances of Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoys which will be livestreamed all day today here on our joint PotterCast/HPA channel starting shortly at 10:30 am (Eastern) as the HPA leads a (literal) call to action. The schedule of events is as follows:
10:30-11:15: Live streamed Harry and the Potters, Draco and the
Malfoys concert at the North Star Cafe in
Portland, Maine 225 Congress Street Portland, Maine
11:15 : concert ends. Those in Portland at the North Star Cafe will
get trained on canvassing, those watching on livestream.com/pottercast
will go straight from the concert to John Green. John will train them
in the phone banking -
if people aren't in Portland, the phone banking is the most important thing they can do to be part of this - and they can register at http://callforequality.org Noon to 5 pm: Volunteers will be canvassing or phone banking
5
pm to 7 pm: Second live streamed Harry and the Potters and Draco and
the Malfoys concert

simos girl, Harry Potter fans who don’t support this equality movement have to ask themselves why? What is it about equality you find distasteful? Is it that all people in Maine will now have the right to marry the person they love? We keep hearing how giving gays the right to wed will endanger marriage. But no one can tell us exactly how that is. Giving everyone the right to marry the person of their choice can only strengthen marriage. After all, the heterosexuals haven’t done such a great job with it with about 50% ending in divorce.

@lurk3r & simos girl {WBM} Lemon You don’t need to agree, that’s your opinion and you’re entitled to that. However, let me ask you – if you were with someone for years, loved them dearly and would do anything for them, how would you feel if you were treated as a 2nd class citizen, denied the right to a civil marriage? Gay people in this country are American citizens- they pay taxes, work, etc. yet they are not treated as Americans, which is very disturbing.
