We have more tonight regarding that new issue of Movie Magic magazinewe told you about a few days ago, which contains a large preview on the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie.” Thanks to Orchid, who let us know she now has all the scans up at her Harry/Ginny website. Of interest is a new interview with actor Tom Felton (scans also here, here and here in our galleries) who speaks a bit more on his character of Draco Malfoy in the sixth Harry Potter film. Tom says that there “are reasons that Draco is the way he is…He’s seen so many things and been taught so many wrong ideas from his father, Lucius, and of course he worships his father. He wants to be like him, to emulate him in every way. But his father has been involved in Voldemort’s dark circle for many years, so it’s not unusual that Draco would want to follow that path too. Everything is to please his father.” The article also contains a bit from Potter film producer David Heyman, who praises the actor’s performance in the upcoming movie, as he says “Tom’s nuances in the new film are terrific. It feels like a deeper richer character than we’ve seen to date.”
On a related note, and perhaps of greater interest to fans, is a possible movie spoiler contained in the magazine’s Encyclopedia of things relating to “Half-Blood Prince.” While it is possible this is a typo or mistake, the article describes the dreadful character of Fenrir Greyback and what is a possible plot twist in the movie. The article (scan here) describes the Werewolf in the movie, and then says that in his attempt to create “an army of werewolves,” “Fenrir attacks Harry, but Harry or (someone unseen) petrifies him in time. But Ron’s Dad is not so lucky-Fenrir mauls his face and nearly kills him.” As readers will recall, we learned that the character of Fleur was not going to be in HBP, nor have we learned of the casting for Bill Weasley, so perhaps they have given Arthur that terrible fate for this film, however as we do not know if this is indeed the case, please keep this in the rumor category until we can update with more.
Lotr was a movie created after all the books were finished. Whole different ball game. You know what characters are important from the begining so the merging of and taking out characters are done with the knowledge of how it will affect the end. Also the Harry Potter movies have a made for a younger audience feel to them then LOTR. Which I think in the end is one one of the reasons that people are disappointed with them.
I just don’t see how B&F are important enough to freak out about. Their stuff can be told using other characters. Arthur being attacked and scarred forever can be a wonderful addition to the movie. Arthur is a sweet man and he wasn’t savaged in HP5 (book or movie). From the sound of this and the way bill was attacked this could be a really powerful scene. It’ll affect the characters it has too and really make the point that the death eaters are evillll. Now don’t get me wrong I know they added extra family spirit. We got to know a lot about Molly though her views of her future daughter in law. They were nice characters on their own. As for the wedding-it can stay or go for the next movie. Harry is kind of close to Lupin and perhaps will make the impact of Lupin making Harry Teddy’s godfather and the deaths of Tooks&Lupin more meaningful in the movie. But everything that happens at the wedding can happen at Harry’s birthday party.
I don’t share the opinion that the movies either degenerated or improved after CoS. OoTP and PoA were superior to the Columbus efforts but GoF (although it had enjoyable scenes – it’s HP!)
was a structural mess. Just my take, feel free to disagree (hides under the table lol)
I have to say that i will be very dissapointed if this rumour is true. I do agree that directors and story writers cannot fit everything into these movies but to take characters out that aren’t supposed to be taken out , so late in the movie series is completely dumb. Again if the rumour is true i cannot believe that JKR would let this masicure of the final 3 books commence filming!!! We’ll have to see….................
I don’t get why some of you guys are *itching about this. It makes no sense to me. At least they even put a werewolf scene in! I don’t think that this should be a huge problem at all. Arthur replacing Bill … I don’t see anything wrong with that. We will judge how it is when the movie comes out. And I’m pretty sure some of you “disappointed” or “pissed off” people will like the change.
Well, if they can change it to Arthur, then they can also change it so that his wounds could be healed. They can pretty much do anything they want actually.
I like this about as much as I liked them making Cho the one who betrayed the DA, which is to say, not too darn much.
I love when people say the LotR films were “true to the books.” Umm…no they weren’t. If they had been, we would of had to sit through 3 hours of hobbits singing and walking through the woods in the Fellowship. Peter Jackson changed enough of the story and the characters to make them interesting, and he did a very good job of it. I wish the HP films were as cohesive.
toms always been a great malfoy, he really makes you hate him, im anxious to see how he adds depth to the character, especially how he deals with his obligations to voldemort.
as for mr. weasley getting mauled instead, i dont like it, like alot of you im sure.
the lack of bill and fleur not only messes up the wedding, but ….omg…shell cottage…..where will the bury dobby, where will they plot the gringotts break-in….where will they talk to olivander, let alone where will they escape to after malfoy manor?! i understand its supposed to be an “interpretation” but it seems like more of a mutilation from the rumors, JO say it aint so!
that is bull right there. And loads of it. I’d rather have them not have that storyline instead of having arthur get attacked, that’s just crud right there. Ah well, it’s warner bros. I’m not surprised. And quite frankly, i don’t think i even care…
Here is any easy way to keep the wedding and shell cottage without completely confusing the audience: Lupin and Tonks get married at the Burrow, and then move to Shell Cottage. Holy cow, it’s a miracle!
I HAVE NEWS!!! I typed ‘Half-Blood Prince news’ in google and found this website with a HBP poster with a picture of Harry and Dumbledore in the cave. A quote also, as there usually is, saying “I’m with you, Harry”.!!!!! The link is http://www.movieweb.com/movies/film/07/3607/poster1.php
Switching the warewolf attack from Bill to Mr. Weasley makes loads of sense from a film perspective. It’s all about the booking, really. For the attack to have any dramatic weight, it has to happen to a character we’ve known throughout the FILM series. Bill’s never been mentioned in the previous five movies because there just wasn’t any time. Introducing and developing Bill in the sixth film, while doing the same for Slughorn, Romilda, and young Tom Riddle, will only lead to about five minutes of screen time for Bill. Also, if Fenrir did attack Bill, it would weaken the warewolf character because he just attacked a character we’ve only seen for a few minutes. Fenrir would look much more sinister and deadly if he attacks Mr. Weasley, a character whom we’ve seen and cared for previously.
"...we could do a sponsored scrub of Gryffindor common room, all proceeds to S.P.E.W., it would raise awareness as well as funds --"[br]"I'll sponsor you to shut up about spew," Ron muttered irritably, but only so Harry could hear him.
