Heyman on Tom Felton as Draco in "Half-Blood Prince: "Nuances are Terrific" Plus Info on a Possible New Plot Twist

We have more tonight regarding that new issue of Movie Magic magazinewe told you about a few days ago, which contains a large preview on the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie.” Thanks to Orchid, who let us know she now has all the scans up at her Harry/Ginny website. Of interest is a new interview with actor Tom Felton (scans also here, here and here in our galleries) who speaks a bit more on his character of Draco Malfoy in the sixth Harry Potter film. Tom says that there “are reasons that Draco is the way he is…He’s seen so many things and been taught so many wrong ideas from his father, Lucius, and of course he worships his father. He wants to be like him, to emulate him in every way. But his father has been involved in Voldemort’s dark circle for many years, so it’s not unusual that Draco would want to follow that path too. Everything is to please his father.” The article also contains a bit from Potter film producer David Heyman, who praises the actor’s performance in the upcoming movie, as he says “Tom’s nuances in the new film are terrific. It feels like a deeper richer character than we’ve seen to date.”

On a related note, and perhaps of greater interest to fans, is a possible movie spoiler contained in the magazine’s Encyclopedia of things relating to “Half-Blood Prince.” While it is possible this is a typo or mistake, the article describes the dreadful character of Fenrir Greyback and what is a possible plot twist in the movie. If you do not wish to read more, please stop here, otherwise scroll down for more.

The article (scan here) describes the Werewolf in the movie, and then says that in his attempt to create “an army of werewolves,” “Fenrir attacks Harry, but Harry or (someone unseen) petrifies him in time. But Ron’s Dad is not so lucky-Fenrir mauls his face and nearly kills him.” As readers will recall, we learned that the character of Fleur was not going to be in HBP, nor have we learned of the casting for Bill Weasley, so perhaps they have given Arthur that terrible fate for this film, however as we do not know if this is indeed the case, please keep this in the rumor category until we can update with more.

Thanks much to Orchid and Janet!

I was under the impression they had cut Bill and Fleur to protect the ickle kiddies from seeing one of the heroes horribly disfigured. What’s their excuse now? Why is Bill being snubbed from the movies? Are they afraid he will steal Harry’s thunder? Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!

Hi, all! Can’t possibly read ALL the comments, here [work, y’know], but I did want to say one thing: THANK YOU, ECONOMRS! Just what I’ve been thinking. The real most important thing, in any of these films, is retaining the SPIRIT of the books! It is not possible to satisfy each and every persons “vision” of what should be or not be. We do need to “step back from the desire to see these books portrayed in every exact detail and enjoy what the filmakers do!” Also, let me add. For the record, Mr Yates is an excellent Director, and I still maintain that this will be an excellent film. :>

Seriously I come to Leaky and see all these complaints that there is no news and then when you get something you whinge hardcore about it.

You are like a pack of rabid little ferals. In a movie you have 2-2.5 hours to establish a character and tell their story. With harry we are lucky – he’s the central character. We also know lots abut Ron and hermione the rest of teh characters get very little screen time and it is not viable to give them a lot. HP is FULL of characters and a movie simply CANNOT deliver them. it CAN’T it’s not the right medium. We need to know who they are, how they relate to Harry and what their point is.

frankly Bill and Fleur have no point to Harry. Tonks and Lupin do. It is a good filmic decision to leave out Bill and Fleur. It’s another character to get to know and there isn’t enough time for that!

Book … movie two Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery different animals. I am tired of coming here to get movie news and then trying to locate the intelligent discussion about it. In 6 pages there’s like 3 people who’ve made mature thoughtful comment. Why does a werewolf attack lose impact if it;s Arthur? Why does it make it less of a blow for the Weasley family? Seriously Bill and Arthur are in the same family! we know Arthur we’ll care as a movie audience if he gets mauled. Even if they introduce Bill will we be attached enough to his character to care – the guy can only get like 15 minutes of screentime before he gets mauled becasue Harry is at Hogwarts and Bill is not. We’ve known Mr Weasley since CoS. We have a relationship with him. If it was Bill – even if they introduced him in GoF we’d probably forget who the hell he was by the time the end of HBP came around I had barely an idea who Tonks was when she arrived in the DoM because she was so infrequent. “Oh yeah that’s right, I know her…”

There was NO ROOM for Bill in OotP. His scenes are in Grimauld Place but you had to have Ron, Hermione, Ginny, twins, Sirius, Mr and Mrs W and Lupin and Kingsley and Moody there – where the heck would they have PUT Bill? So what we get 5 minutes of him at the end of GoF oogling Fleur and another 2 minutes screen time in Grimmauld Place, squashed in the background of a shot and a scene at Christmas in HBP, the guy has very little meaningful dialogue and then we are supposed to care when Fenrir attacks him?

That is not how you build up movie characters.

I am looking very much forward to see Tom Fleton in this movie I think the epic confrontations between he and Harry will be fabulous. It’s been building slowly, i can’t wait to see him stretch it.

I really like the fact that Arthur gets attacked…I really wanted this almost-deathly experience to be in the movie and I think that Arthur is a character that most movie-goers can feel sorry for instead of a Weasly member that we’ve never seen before..I mean, even in the book, I wasn’t that sad about the attack..Bill was always a cameo that I couldn’t really feel sad for..(as I did feel with Fred, Tonks or Lupin)

@Neil “I mean to the non-reader they are going to believe it’s Arthur who gets bitten by Fenrir, when it actually isn’t.” Well…yeah…because in terms of a movie Arthur is the one getting attacked…as in OotP Cho is the one to betray (even because of Veritaserum)...as in Philosopher’s Stone..(one of the movies made by Colombus – a director that many love bacause he left everything in – ) Ron went into the Dark Forest instead of Neville and he actually never got burnt by Norbert..and there were many many changes even in that film…

I don’t care about the changes that have to be made..Because they HAVE to be made..I t is a movie..the movie works with pictures and not words..You have to see an attack and not listen about in on the radio…you have to feel the danger of death-eaters..and not have the characters read about it in a newspaper..when are you people going to learn??

I have also been disappointed with the movies. I will go see the last 3 because I’ll need to have the closure, but for me, they are nothing compared to my love for the canon! I agree with those who’d made a comparison to the LOTR trilogy. I loved those books so much, and was worried about the movies, but they turned out to be fantastic. What those writers and Peter Jackson did with the essence of the story was breathtaking. I can handle slight changes from the books when the true spirit of the piece is maintained. LOTR did that for me. I wish I could say as much for the HP movies. The Fenrir/Arthur stuff doesn’t bother me too much, except that I do think leaving out Bill and Fleur is a huge mistake as it relates to the conclusion of the series. Dobby’s death and burial scenes were just about the best part of DH for me. Where are you going to put that if not at Shell Cottage? (Not to mention where they’ll have to move the Griphook and Ollivander scenes?)

Pfft purists! If it works on screen I’m all for it. It’s not like it ruins the book, it’s still sitting on the shelf ya know people. Unless you all dump the book once the movie comes out, why are you worried?

Don’t forget, the movies are NOT supposed to be carbon copies of the books, but interpretations of them. INTERPRETATIONS.

BUT that interpretation stinks!! That would make Arthur a werewolf and that won’t fit in, in the 7th book and I’m sure if he was a werewolf his job at the minestry would be over…hope it’s a rumor!!!!!!!

good for T felton.

I really, really hope that Fenrir attacking Arthur is just a rumor or something they though they would do but later cut. it’s stupid. Arthur ALREADY GOT HURT we already saw the impact that had, d0n’t make it uncesary repetitive just because Bill wasn{t cast

then again the movie article description is sort of vague, maybe Fenrir hurt arthur but doesn{t maul him or maybe since thet bothered to put this twisted scenario Mrs. Weasley or someone is able to heal arthur.

Honestly, how can Arthur being the one who is attacked “ruin” the movie? What does it change? Nothing. Sure we don’t see Fleur and Bill, but we knew that months ago, so we don’t need to see Molly’s approval of their relationship at the end of the story.

Arthur being attacked will be more emotional for the audience because we know who he is, and he not some random new character the film audience has never seen before. I’m cool with this.

Bill/Fleur is my favourite ship after R/Hr. And if they DARE not put B/Fl in DH I shall murder one of these stupid directors.

Yay! I cant wait to see this movie. David Yates is an awesome director and Steve Kloves is an amazing screen writer and I can’t wait to see how they work together!! This movie is going to be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Becky:

I think you mean you will murder THE director. David Yates is the only director. But if Bill and Fleur aren’t in HBP then I think it will probably be more of Steve Kloves fault than David Yates’.
