We have more tonight regarding that new issue of Movie Magic magazinewe told you about a few days ago, which contains a large preview on the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie.” Thanks to Orchid, who let us know she now has all the scans up at her Harry/Ginny website. Of interest is a new interview with actor Tom Felton (scans also here, here and here in our galleries) who speaks a bit more on his character of Draco Malfoy in the sixth Harry Potter film. Tom says that there “are reasons that Draco is the way he is…He’s seen so many things and been taught so many wrong ideas from his father, Lucius, and of course he worships his father. He wants to be like him, to emulate him in every way. But his father has been involved in Voldemort’s dark circle for many years, so it’s not unusual that Draco would want to follow that path too. Everything is to please his father.” The article also contains a bit from Potter film producer David Heyman, who praises the actor’s performance in the upcoming movie, as he says “Tom’s nuances in the new film are terrific. It feels like a deeper richer character than we’ve seen to date.”
On a related note, and perhaps of greater interest to fans, is a possible movie spoiler contained in the magazine’s Encyclopedia of things relating to “Half-Blood Prince.” While it is possible this is a typo or mistake, the article describes the dreadful character of Fenrir Greyback and what is a possible plot twist in the movie. The article (scan here) describes the Werewolf in the movie, and then says that in his attempt to create “an army of werewolves,” “Fenrir attacks Harry, but Harry or (someone unseen) petrifies him in time. But Ron’s Dad is not so lucky-Fenrir mauls his face and nearly kills him.” As readers will recall, we learned that the character of Fleur was not going to be in HBP, nor have we learned of the casting for Bill Weasley, so perhaps they have given Arthur that terrible fate for this film, however as we do not know if this is indeed the case, please keep this in the rumor category until we can update with more.
For Merlin sake….. they have CHO in this movie again and they didn’t even bother to have someone play BiLL???? I mean I knew there was no news of anybody being cast for the role…. I love HBP book…. but the movie has been a real disappointment till now. Hardly any news or photos… and what I have read doesn’t sound too promising. I HAVE TO BE HONEST. I know there’s always been cuts and changes in the other movies but I’ve never been so disappointed in any of them.
Surprisingly, if the rumor about the Bill/Fleur wedding being replaced by the Lupin/Tonks wedding is true, then I’m all for it! We see throughout the story that Lupin and Tonks’ relationship has a much bigger impact on Harry than Bill and Fleur’s does. I mean, look at the epilouge of DH: Teddy’s life is an exact parallel of Harry’s! This is something readers should understand, though not many do. The events that follow the Lupin’s will have a much bigger impact on us than we could have with Bill and Fleur, in whom we have hardly been introduced to, and have little hope of ever being able to connect with them.
It makes sense for a film production to minimize the number of actors – even if we’d really rather them follow canon. (Although I still think James McAvoy would have made a great Bill Weasley). As far as the Arthur Weasley attack I would take that rumor with a grain of salt. Movie Magazine has great photos but they’ve had mistakes in the text content before so we’ll just have to wait and see.
god, the most annoying this is when they change stuff in the movies and then people (like my family) forget what happened in the book. its like, why couldn’t they have just adapted the book? are you seriously telling me its too hard? cause its not, they might be long, but the actual content is not insurmountable. thats one of the reasons i was so excited about david yates directing 5, because he adapted ‘the way we live now’ into a beautiful, well paced miniseries, but ootp was choppy. why??? he’s so much better than this. why cant they just cut out all the stupid kid crap and non-canon crap and make every scene count. i wonder how many minutes of footage it would be if you did that? you can cut out the entire shrunken head character in PoA, naked/fur coat Sirius scene from OoTP, the ballroom dancing lesson from GoF, pretty much every scene from GoF…
whatever, i still like em for what they are, but what are they? fanfiction?
Poor Arthur Weasley, he gets chomped on two movies in a row?
I do wish Mr. Yates and Mr. Kloves (who I thought did well with the first mvoies) would talk with Evanna Lynch before changing the story line. And give her the deciding vote!
Writing that Arthur gets attacked instead of Bill has nothing to do with saving time (because they could just as easily leave the attack out altogether). It has to do with them not wanting to leave a certain back story in the film, but still wanting to reap the excitement of a werewolf attack. Their brilliant solution? Arthur gets mauled, instead! They erase characters and a back story, yet gain an action scene, as always! Gee, maybe death-defying Arthur should fight Voldemort in the final battle in the last movie. After all, it’ll be a nice way they can save some time if Daniel is too busy performing on Broadway in “Equus”.
I think the biggest thing going against the HP now is the fact that they did cut a lot of weasley screentime in the first movies. At the time they started, only the first three books were released, with GoF on its way. And we all have to admit that it seems at that time, the weasleys were ‘just Ron’s family”, much like Neville “was just a forgetful classmate”. Unlike, LOTR or even Narnia, they don’t know what needs to stay or not seeing as JKR also didnt want to reveal any of the important events in the next books.
But with that, we all have to remember that she does approve all these drafts. Meaning that as much as we hate all the changes and cuts WB has made on these movies, JKR approved them. With OoTP, WB wanted to cut Kreacher but JKR said that if they do that, they would have a problem come the 7th movie. We all know she approves everything: Alfonso C. wanted to add additional “creatures” in PoA, but JKR stopped him from doing that. So as much as I hated the shruken heads in PoA, she did approve it, as well as the other things they’ve changed so far.
I like the way David Yates as directed the OoTP: he focused on Harry and all his issues, anything not directly experienced by Harry was cut. And that’s why the prefect storyline was cut; and that’s why Quidditch/”weasley is our king” was moved from OoTP to HBP. Quidditch was something Harry was so immersed in HBP, but not in OoTP.
As for the Bill-Fluer storyline, when you think about it, movie-wise, is it really wise to re-introduce them at this point? What purpose would they serve? Relationships and conflicts can be built and resolved in a regular one and half hour movie: they have almost 5 hours for Deathly Hallows to re-establish Bill & Fluer, should they decide to do so. If not, then Ron would need to go somewhere else when he leaves harry and hermoine. Any place would do, when you think about it, seeing as Ron only needs to establish that he didnt go back to the Burrow during his disapperance. As for Shell Cottage and Dobby’s death, Dobby could be buried somewhere else. Again, the where is not important, we only need to see how heartbreaking it would be for harry to bury a friend to died saving him.

"And you're not sitting with the prefects today, either," said George. "Christmas is a time for family."[br]
