Thanks to “Entertainment Weekly,” who let us know about a brand new photo they have from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In the photo, which you can see via this link, Harry Potter (Dan Radcliffe) attends Potions class with Professor Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent). The caption reads:
“Daniel Radcliffe’s boy wizard has a new potions master — the guilt-racked Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent, pictured with Radcliffe) — in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, due Nov. 21. ’’He’s a good teacher,’’ says Broadbent, ’’but he has a fateful weakness for charismatic, high-flying, brilliant students.’‘

I think I can get over a non-walrus Slughorn, seriously, what’s up with the mortarboard? Who in either the Wizarding or Muggle world runs around wearing the graduation hat on a daily basis?
I like the pic, I agree he doesn’t totally look like Slughorn is described in the book, but at least they are keeping the Felix Felicitis plot!
I love Harry’s face! He looks like he is thinking: “OMG, I want that Felix Felicitis thing right now!!!” lol, just like in the book, at least that is canon!
Btw, do you think that’s Slughorn’s office or the new potions classroom? I guess we need a hi-res version!
You people complain sometimes of unnecessary and simple things. He is not the person in the book he is a human being, someone had to play the part of potions master and they got someone so we can all enjoy the movie on the 21 of November and that is what is important.
With regard to Slughorn’s look, sometimes what works in a book comes across as over the top in film. It is entirely possible they decided that the whole “walrus-look” didn’t work when they did costume testing, it has been known to happen.
The most important thing is that he captures the spirit of the character.
As far as mortarboards are concerned, I believe there was a time in the past when they were worn on a daily basis by masters in public schools like Eton, a la Goodbye Mr Chips.
Ok WB, The Dark Knight comes out tomorrow and its guaranteed to be a major hit so you can move on to HBP now! Yes, WB shocking as you may find this, you have other movies coming out this year besides TDK. I’m not even a fan of Twilight, but maybe WB should be a bit nervous. HP is the more well known series, but their lack of promoting so far this time around means that most people I talk to have no idea there is even a HP movie coming out this year and I was floored by how many of them knew about Twilight but not HBP. Paramount/Summit are promoting Twilight to death and it doesn’t even come out until December 12th. Where are our interviews, magazine covers, and trailers? I mean Twilight has had a teaser for quite awhile now and already got their full trailer today. Come on WB, its time to let the rest of the world outside of our fandom know that HP is still here!
Well the Dark Knight is probably going to be WB’s biggest movie this year, only thing that could probably top it is HBP so i can see why they’re promoting the hell out of that instead right now, but really they didn’t start showing the trailers and things on TV regularly until a month or so ago, so i can see why there’s not a whole lot in way of Harry Potter promotion, but it’s still almost 4 months for them to be all gung ho about promoting HBP.
Jim Broadbent’s going to be an awesome Slughorn regardless of whether he looks like a walrus or not.
Good grief! He is neither short,round,fluffy(like the chair) he turns into and does not resemble “a walrus” no mustache….. Sorry I am a BIT disappointed. Maybe I just picture everybody like Jo writes them and Mary Gran-Pre draws them. Do you suppose he had a say in his costume? It seems like Michael Gambon does not like the beard and they tie it for him, which looks so ridiculous like his curly locks….... Maybe he does not read the books either….. I really respect Jason Isaacs he not only IS Luscious I mean Lucius, he shows a strong attachment to his character by giving input on powerful,posh,lord of the manor Malfoy…..Lovely…....

I don’t care about Slughorns look. yes,they should be faithful to the books, but even our Harry doesn’t have bushy hair,or Hermione etc.
but Jim is awesome and he’ll do great!

Harry watched Hagrid getting redder and redder in the face as he called for more wine, finally kissing Professor McGonagall on the cheek, who, to Harry's amazement, giggled and blushed, her top hat lopsided.
yeah, they should’ve given Broadbent the mustache he had in Moulin Rouge (but make it white).
