Previously we told you that there were to be several contests held to win the chance to attend the special tea party held by J.K. Rowling for the release of The Tales of Beedle the Bard next month. One such contest is from The Edinburgh Evening News, which launched this event last night. Their contest will give the opportunity for ten schools in the Edinburgh area to receive invitations to attend the party, where Jo will be reading from Beedle the Bard and answering questions. Each of the ten schools can bring 20 children between ages 8-11. If you are living in the Edinburgh, Scotland area and wish to enter your school, entries must be submitted by November 10. You can enter via a text or using a special original coupon (no copies) that is found in the paper. Thanks to TLC reader Neil, we can see the scans of the newspaper here, here, and here.

As a reminder, The Tales of Beedle the Bard written by J.K. Rowling is being released on December 4th. As noted Jo will be holding a special event that day at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh, where one of her original handwritten copies of Beedle will go on display to the public until January 4, 2009. At the same time, a copy given to Scholastic editor Arthur Levine will be on display here in the US at the New York Public library from December 4 through January 4, with the event free and open to the public. As mentioned above, there are contests being held for children to attend this event. Scholastic, the US publishers of the Harry Potter novels have concluded their contest from last month, with UK Potter publishers Bloomsbury and Amazon yet to begin. We will update with information on the remaining contests as soon as they begin. You can check out the entire cover art for the book here in our galleries, as well as read more about the book via the Scholastic site, where as we reported previously, you can also download a poster for Beedle here (pdf).

One last related note, pre-sales of the The Tales of Beedle the Bard book continue to do well, topping charts recently in Canada. The Bookseller is reporting today that retailers are expecting the book to be a big seller for the holiday season, noting “J K Rowling’s Beedle the Bard is forecast to be a good
children’s seller by both Waterstone’s and Borders, and film tie-ins
and book plus products are also strong.”
