Pardon Our Mess! Redesign Underway!

Leaky

Fair, patient Leaky people: We will have a bit of dust and debris around here in the next few days, as we push through a long-owed redesign and shift our content. We have a whole new system running the site, a new/cleaner design showing it off, and have ditched a lot of the elements that have been giving people problems (phew). So, we really hope you like the new look, which our John Dawlish Noe brought forward and which has been executed by our lovely Super!Alex Robbin on our brand-new system custom-designed by SuperGenius!Nick Poulden. Lots more to come, but in the meantime, watch out for the nargles.

Wow! Everything looks neat and tidy- very unRon-ish! I love it! Did you find any Doxies in the drapes?

the ads are spoiling it all. Yuck !

Though leaky knew better then using such nasty means. I see I was wrong :(

I’m certainly NOT cliquing!

Also think that the comments should be ordered with most recent on top, and oldest at the bottom.

Aaargh! The flashing, spinning, pop-up, crazy-colour advertisements are already driving me nuts. Please, someone hand me an Erumpent horn!

Where is the “home” button to get back to main page once you’re inside a specific article?

Looking good. Please let us know when it is “done” so we can let you know if we still find problems.

Thanks, Beowulf

That’s much cleaner and more legible, thanks.

The thing which is giving me most trouble right now is your RSS feed, which I read through Google Reader: the links from there don’t actually go to the relevant article.

The links are all of the type <http: /> which don’t seem to work properly.

Once you get that fixed, I’ll be blissful (but not ignorant, thanks to you ;-)

Leaky, this is great. Trying to log onto the site with the old layout for the past few days has been a real headache, and this is SO much better.

I know you guys are working nonstop to try and get rid of all the nargles. I have only one thing to say to you: GET SOME SLEEP! :-)

Much Leaky love, Alyson

Much better desing indeed! It’s more comfortable to read the news now with the current width.

Looks great. Huge improvment.

The Floo Network bar on top though is having some problems, it’s near impossible to click on the one you want.

Hey all,

To summarize your bugs:

- You all seem to be receiving blinking ads at the top of the site. I too am with you on despising those advertisements. Once we find out which ad is blinking we will remove it ASAP.

- Fonts should be at least one pixel bigger for the news and the poll answers.

- The “More News” link for thew News At A Glance box is not gone, it just never got put into this new design. We’ve got it on our list of top-priority things to fix.

- Poll comments are also not gone, they are on their way as well. Top-Priority!

- The easiest way to get back to the main page is to click on either Leaky Info of Potter News in the flash header navigation at the top of the page. I agree this is not the most easiest of ways to return and we will add a Back to Front Page link soon to the left-side.

- The ad on the left is distracting because it does not blend in. We will look into fixing this but cannot promise anything. Unfortunately because of the insane amount of traffic we have been recieving, that is how we keep Leaky up and running.

- The Floo Network links I just noticed are not lying on top of the correct part of the image when you have a sidebar open (ie. Bookmarks, History, etc.).

If I have missed anything, post it again and I will add it to our list.

Personally, I liked the old one better. However, if you must redesign the site, let me offer a few suggestions as I’m a web designer.

Up on the horizontal navigation bar (with the slide down menu) I’d highly recommend placing a “Home” link. It would greatly improve usability, as a significant percentage of people aren’t going to realize they need to click “Potter News”.

The comments link is a little out of the way, and might be better placed near the “rate this article” star-rating system, in a larger text size.

Also, having three ads is a little excessive. I’d recommend going down to two.

I’d have sent this through email, but the contact form doesn’t appear to be available yet.

Sorry to double post, but the RSS feeds are having problems. They don’t take you to the article, just the main page. Thought I’d give you guys a heads-up.
