Oh, also, with that out of the way, Neville and Hannah? So adorably sweet.

BS to her saying she would have brought Dumbledore’s orientation years ago had she known better….
The moment religious organizations or conversative parents would hear that fact that a major father like figure was homosexual and spending hours on end… ALONE with a minor would be the moment that the series would either suffer severe drops in sells… or increased.
Good choice, waiting until now JK… because it’s too late to return the books muwahahahahaha.

hmmm…maybe it’s just time to agree to disagree. Yes, I was shocked to read that. But now after about an hour, it’s starting to sink in. I agree that he is the same old Dumbledore, and I agree that it plays no role in the existing books. But, I also have to respect everyone’s views. Not everyone is going to like it. Well, not everyone liked the wonderful, long-awaited Ron and Hermione embrace (you know what shippers I’m talking about lol) But let’s not forget poor Neville!! He’s being shoved aside again. I kind of like the idea of perhaps Neville being seen as this great war hero, and Hannah becoming all love-sick and puppy-dogged eyed over him. And then having lots of GryffinPuff babies and growing old together, becoming the ideal Grandma and Grandpa.

Wawawhoa…so not expected.
Either way it doesn’t matter to me, but it will be kinda different reading the books now. heh, Grindelwald/Dumbledore my golly

I love getting the backstory on JK’s characters, and hearing that Dumbledore was gay totally rocks my world! There are clues - the plum suit he wears to visit the orphanage in Book 6, the high-heeled boots in Book 1, his impeccable manners :)—but I think it’s perfect that JK added this most fascinating aspect of his character after the series was done. In hindsight this bit of information adds a deeper meaning to the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and who knows if the feeling was mutual?
I found the negative reactions quite interesting; it seems most of our homophobic posters can only (and perhaps only want to?) equate being gay with gay sex. Sex is just one aspect of love, no matter if you’re gay or straight. It saddens me to read the fear and anger behind the negative reaction of finding out Dumbledore was in love with Grindelwald.
If there are any more surprises, it will be that Lockhart was simply a narcissistic metrosexual and not gay. :-)
I’m also wearing a Dumbledore shirt for Gay Pride in Atlanta next year!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe that!!! It is soooo weird. I mean, I sort of always thought of Dumbledore as a bit strange, but I didn’t think he was gay…. I am a bit disappointed that Neville and Luna didn’t get together, but it is pretty cool. And when Aunt Petunia was trying to talk to harry, I thought she was trying to say ” I wanted to got to Hogwarts. You’re very lucky.” or quote something else from ‘the prince’s tale’. Sooo weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YvonneMarie – I agree – I’m just worried that it’s now going to be so hard to convince Christian parents in the future that this is a great book to read.

For those who are saying J.K. Rowling could have constructed a better romance between Grindelwald and Dumbledore, may I ask, how would you have done better? Considering that J.K. Rowling likely didn’t want to actually write homosexuality into her books in the same way she did her Christian faith, what could she have done?
Considering the limits she had to recognize in all likelihood, one would have to say that she did a pretty good job. Millions of readers picked up Grindeldore vibes while reading the book. That has to say something. The romance was at least implied, and one can’t stereotype Grindeldore fans as the typical slasher now. Something was going on when people opened their books on midnight in July. The romance was there if you looked closely enough, hidden beneath layers of interaction and relations.

OMG! You go Jo! Finally a strong, wise, non-stereotypical portrayal of a gay man! Perhaps she didn’t write that aspect of the relationship because what she wrote was all there was other than Dumbledore’s inner feelings. We are around homosexuals every day and very likely don’t know it most of the time. Why? Because they’re NORMAL people. Maybe that was her point in not making an issue about this in the books. The relationship and Dumbledore’s sexual orientation were alluded to, however, in Rita Skeeter’s interview and book.

All I care about is Snape got his portrait! About time!!!!!

i thought jo had said somewhere else that Petunia wanted to wish harry luck? am i imagining things?

You have got to be kidding, Jo! (DD) This is just not right! I’m never reading the HP books the same way again. In fact, I’m just not reading them again!!!!!

soooo do you think she will put this in the encylopedia? I would love to learn more about their relationship… I mean whats the point of mentioning it if you aren’t going to write about it? The shock is wearing off, and now I am more curious. For those of you who feel that the books are ruined, then you are not a very good HP fan. So what, DD was gay, build a bridge and get over it. I honestly don’t care if people use this to try to ban the books, their relationship isn’t described in the books at all, it was just a small piece of background info. It’s stupid that people consider baning books anyway.. just my thoughts and feelings. DD is still my favorite character

it just isn’t necessary. i feel like jkr is just trying for more (unneeded) publicity. i don’t like it.

Lol!
You know what…i must say my mouth fell open when i first read the headline…but once i heard he was in love with grindelwald, i laughed.
I find this all highly amusing! Go Jo! Lol!
And James and Lily giving money to Remus…thats just too sweet! I love them even more now!
And Go Neville! Married a good woman!
