You know, the way JKR decribed his outfit in the very beginning, on Privet Drive in PS/SS, it made me wonder, eccentric or gay? Now I know- both!

Leave it to Jo to write a homosexual character without a hint of stereotyping in any of the seven books. Dumbledore was (and still is for me, even in light of book seven) one of the most, if not the most admirable person in the series (maybe just behind Harry ;). I love Dumbledore even more now and I admire Jo’s writing and development of him. Way to go Jo, for attacking difficult themes in children’s literature. It’s true we never could’ve guessed what Dumbledore’s sexual orientation was, but the fact that she told everyone even now took a lot of guts because I can see it being perceived as controversial. Once again, go Jo!

I am SO DISAPPOINTED with JKR’s decision to identify Dumbledore as gay. If this is her way of being politically correct, I’m not buying it…or is this just her ploy to spike her book sales?

Haha…this is amazing. Oh the FanFiction community is going to to buzzing now :D Funnily, I always pictured that Neville would be with Susan, but I like Hannah…he married a ‘Puff! I never thought of Dumbledore as being in love with Grindelvald…I wonder if it was mutual?

As a Christian teacher, it has been hard enough promoting these books to parents, but now with the thought that there may be a gay undertone in them, it is going to be impossible – Great JO, THANKS A LOT.

David> Why do we have to know Dumbledores sexual orientation? I say Boo JK. Why did you need to reveal that.

Puhlease! If she said Dumbledore used to love some woman, does it offend you that she reveal his ‘straight’ sexual orientation too!?

stop worrying about promoting them..she doesnt even mention anything about gayness in the books. if they’re good books, they will be read. it just happens on its own.

To someone’s previous comment, if parents won’t let their children read the books because Jo revealed DD’s sexuality, then they’re just a bunch of ignorant fools that need to step out of their little conservative, bigoted holes.

I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I’ve said all along that I believed that Big-D might be gay. I mean there were very tiny hints here and there throughout the books, but when I read HPDH I cheered because the whole background story that was given for Big-D’s life seemed to support my beliefs.

Now, I must go rub it in the faces of those that got mad at me for stating my beliefs all those years ago!

Thanks for being so open about this JKR!

Roll my eye and point at laugh! This is too funny. The gay angle wasn’t an issue nor bring up AT ALL in the story, yet some of you are still get all offend because a character is gay in the manner of a background info.

Yeah, this does feel like a joke. Like she just thought it up to add some political correctness. I have to admit my opinion of her dropped for the first time. I mean, I have several close gay friends. But… from a writing stand point? Just doesn’t seem to fit. Flame all you will and say anyone who doesn’t like it is homophobic. Not true.
