It dosn’t really affect me much, him being gay or not dosn’t change the book in any way

They are her books; she can make the characters be whatever she wants. However, all through the books I have fallen in love with a character I never saw that way. I saw DD almost like a monk dedicated to his magic and his work, the school the children. I never associated relationships with him. I don’t agree with same sex relationships but I am not here at all to bash them. I just wish if she actually planned on having him be gay she would have worked it into the character. It kind of ruined the character for me. I still love the books and will continue to see Dumbledore as I did, that is the beauty of fiction. I do wish that if JK felt passionate about supporting tolerance or the gay community or whatever that she would have supported it more in the books, so that it didn’t look like a publicity stunt.
With all that I still cannot deny the imaginative genius behind these books!! Love them and wish she could write them forever!

yeah, I don’t like the "Dumbledore is gay" move either, I also saw him as someone dedicated to his work, much like McGonegall, she wasn’t a lesbian with Madame Pomprey…

That just makes you wonder….what the HELL was going on in the Dumbledore household? The father sent to prison for attacking children (never states if they died, just hexxed), Albus gay and in love with his neighbor, and Alberforth doing WHATEVER with the goats. which wand was he using ;)?

I also don’t agree with Neville with some nobody. I always figured he and Luna got together. It does make sense she hooked up with a fellow naturalist.

I never saw Dumbledore as gay. And this won’t change anything, I do think however that Snape was a shocker. I cried when I found out that he loved Lily, and that he was good! I knew in he couldn’t be such a skeez.

What was the point in telling the world that Albus Dumbledore, the greatest wizard of them all, is gay? It doesn’t affect the story and in fact, it makes me think of J.K. Rowling and her books in a lesser light. I do not agree with the other people who think that Dumbledore gay is ‘cool’.

I am ashamed of J.K. Rowling.

why are people talking about pedophilia? How is the fact of Dumbledore being gay makes his relationship with harry different?
HOMOSEXUALITY does not mean PEDOPHILIA. The fact that Dumbledore is gay have nothing to do with his relation with Harry; in the same way that a heterosexual male teacher’s relationship with a female student become something more because of their gender! I mean, come one, get over it! a gay man will not try to jump every guy in his way, it’s homophobic to think so.
And to those who say Jo didn’t need to tell us this information, she also didn’t need to tell us about, say, Hannah and Neville, and I heard no one complaining about that… Is the fact that our good ol’ Dumby’s gay is going to change the way we see the harry Potter series? I mean, seriously. About 10% of the mondial population is gay, get over it…

To all the people who said sexuality doesn’t matter in these books – look at all the straight relationships! I believe what you mean is that "sexualities besides heterosexuality shouldn’t matter in this book," and luckily it looks like this close-minded view is changing nowadays.

To the person who’s sister is upset about having to explain homosexuality to her daughter, so what? You let her read a book containing adolescent straight relationships. Is sayin "some men like other men and some women like other women" really going to do anything harmful to her? Can’t wait till generations like yours die out and the world is one step closer to tolerance of people who are different.

I’m shocked at all the negative comments about homosexuality on this board, especially all the ones disguised with "apologies." Here are some things to consider:

• You don’t choose to be gay. Just like you didn’t choose to be straight (guess you’ll have to pride yourselves in a REAL accomplishment now). If we could, there wouldn’t be teens committing suicide because of their orientation
• You can’t disagree with being gay. You can be heterosexual and want a heterosexual partner. You can hate homosexuality. But you can’t "disagree" with it, just like you can’t disagree with brown hair. That makes no sense, it’s just a costume for your prejudice and should earn you no more respect than people who do bash gays (think of all the racists that don’t bash black people)

Of course, this board just assures me that homosexuals will never get the same respect as heterosexuals. It’s frustrating that people choose to be blind to the fact that a man can be sexually attracted to a man naturally all because they don’t feel the same way or because of a fairy tale less believable than the Harry Potter books tells them it’s a sin. But I guess I can take solace in the fact that these people will never be able to eradicate homosexuality by their stupid arguments. And if some day scientists are able to predict homosexuality in children before they are born and change it, I hope it has devastating effects on the population (evolution has its reasons, people; my guess at the result would be overpopulation and eventual starvation). I’m sure at least Huxley would agree with me that a brave new world like that would deserve it.

Although I love the Harry Potter books and respect JKR for writing them I totally disagree with telling these random pieces of information. Many people believe that once a book is written that it is out of the author’s hands and is up to the reader to find out the smaller pieces of information with the facts that are presented in the book. If JKR really wanted this information to be known about the books, such as Dumbledore being gay, she would have put it somewhere. No this is not truth but a means to be in the spotlight a little longer and make the hardcore fans happy. It is us, the fans, that cause these almost lies to be told because we aren’t satsified with just the information we get in the book. We should leave it alone as it is and look deeper into it ourselves to determine what we believe is true or not, and if we have to – admit that we shall never know. Leave the pieces of work alone, they are great, there is no need for finer details that are being made up at random.

She ruined the Dumbledore’s character to me.I don’t hate gay ppl,but if she didn’t put the fact that he’s a gay in the book, she shouldn’t say it.But I’ll never stop loving HP.If I find time,I will read books once more :)

Samantha, there were tons of hints, they were just very subtle.
This probably just made highly religious people hate the books even more.
