American Edition of HBP: 6.9 Million Copies Sold in First 24 Hours

It's being reported that the American edition of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, published by Scholastic, sold 6.9 million copies in the first 24 hours - or an average of more than 250,000 copies per hour.
Fifth book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix sold 5 million copies in the same 24 hour period in 2003, although some stores reportedly ran out of copies.
