We recently told you about the Goblet of Fire film receiving a 12A rating in the UK due to mostly to concerns about the intensity of the graveyard scene with Voldemort. Today, many of the UK papers, including this from The Times have articles which give a bit more insight into the reasoning for this rating.

“Scenes of concern to the BBFC examiners included “a gang of hooded Death Eaters” invading the Quidditch World Cup.

A graveyard battle between Harry and the Death Eaters was deemed too frightening for some young children as well as a character being dragged below ground by a tangle of plant roots. There are also too many scary spiders, which can cause nightmares, for a PG rating.

The language is stronger than in the earlier films, reflecting the maturation of its central characters, but an interjection of “piss off” did not impress the examiners. The long-awaited death scene may also disturb some.”

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is rated PG-13 here in the US for “for sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images.”
