ODEON is drawing up plans

ODEON is drawing up plans to issue cinema bonds as part of a £300m refinancing of the country's biggest cinema business on the back of a boom in box office spend. Cinema operators are confident that a strong release schedule over the next year will continue to drive increased audiences.

Kobayashi points to the domination of the best-seller lists by translated titles -- largely fantasy and inspirational books like Harry Potter and "Who Moved My Cheese?" -- as a sign of the decline of Japanese publishing. Ueda similarly notes that Japanese readers no longer want how-to books with experts lecturing them from the heights, in the traditional Japanese style, but rather interesting-to-read narratives speaking to them as equals.

Within weeks of opening last October, Ocean Terminal hosted the Scottish movie premiere of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The complex is home to a number of big-name stores such as Debenhams, BHS and Gap as well as a Ster Century Cinema and a visitor centre for the Royal Yacht Britannia.
