The magic of "Potter" is reading (from the Flint Journal).

The International Harry Potter Fan Site has posted the following:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced eight films being considered for Achievement in Visual Effects for the 74th Academy Awards.

A. I. Artificial Intelligence
Black Hawk Down
Cats and Dogs
The Fast and the Furious
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Jurassic Park III
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Pearl Harbor

Fifteen-minute clip reels from each of the films will be screened for the Visual Effects Award Nominating Committee on February 6. The members will then nominate three films for Oscar consideration. They will be announced along with nominations in 23 other categories on Tuesday, February 12, at 5:30 a.m. PST.
